We're on monowings Screwball I didn't want to play with biplanes.

That's fair enough (also, I approve), and actually doesn't affect anything. The problem would have been if monowings hadn't been thought up yet. To the Beiyang Aircraft Company's Beijing factory, and an overenthusiastic engineer!

Point, point, I forgot. So the industrial turns will be March-July-November? Hrm.frigidmagi wrote:I told you twice we were holding that until after the first 2 months, I wanted to give people time to get set up. Like I said you do have to make some post giving an vauge idea of what you're building, beyond that is up to you.
So I guess I'll just do posts at the start of every turn depicting Cabinet meetings or some such on current plans' progression.

Monowings have been around since the First World War. Nobody fielded them afterward, however, because they got eaten alive by more nimble biplanes.Screwball wrote:That's fair enough (also, I approve), and actually doesn't affect anything. What's wrong with biplanes, Magi? There were no monowing fighters in service in 1930, though the Poles and French were working on some designs at the time. The French models weren't any good, but the Polish ones were considered the best fighters in the world upon their introduction in 1933 and 1934.frigidmagi wrote:We're on monowings Screwball I didn't want to play with biplanes.
They looked like this:
I suppose you could be fielding similar planes, though not out of carriers. Me, I'm sticking with biplanes until aircraft technology advances enough that I can build these:

There was also the Boeing Peashooter in this period, the first 'modern' monoplane fighter in the 30's. Boeing deliberately used some outdated features to ease acceptance, including a braced wing rather than a cantilever wing and fixed landing gear.

After being fed some horror stories, I'm gonna say this now. Post it or you never did it. There will be magically appearing minefields or trench systems or what have you. By that token, things that are suppose to be... Huh covert? PMs to a mod will work just as well. Mod judgements in these cases are not open to debate.
Any questions?

I've got my OOB with my major fortifications all listed, I'll clean it up and post tonight. The horror stories in question-and I know them well-are really more in regards to forts and raillines of doom, as opposed to relatively quickly emplaced things like barbed wire, mines, or trench networks.

The recent post in a way highlights some of the annoyances on writing the British system; it's been heavily altered at times over the years so that the officials shown have positions that no longer exist, or are heavily altered, in the modern UK. Today's UK has a Supreme Court, but it is brand new, paint-still-wet in age, created by an Act of Parliament in 2005 and brought into session just this year, while beforehand the highest law body in Britain was actually several, with the Law Lords in the Court of Appeals in Ordinary handling some cases and the Privy Council of the Judiciary handling other matters of legal appeal and decision-making. Similarly, today there are no First Lords of the Admiralty or Secretaries of State for War, but rather only Secretary of State for Defence, which combines the prior two posts into one for the most part (arguably we did the same with the Defense Department not only taking the old role of the War Department but making the Navy Department part of its organization, even if said department was still headed by a Secretary of the Navy). And the Secretary of State for Justice is instead the Lord Chancellor.
Also, a note: though Pacifica is an English common law constitutional monarchy, still with an unwritten constitution formed entirely by centuries of court rulings and parliamentary acts and sovereign decrees, with a Parliamentary government elected by the first-past-the-post system, it is not the constitutional monarchy of today or even of the RL Britain of the 1930s. There was no Glorious Revolution, no English Bill of Rights (though there was likely one for Pacifica), and the diminution of the Sovereign's real powers in favor of the mere ceremonial was retarded compared to the historical. King Alexander I and IV has more real power than George V did in 1930, though he is still bound by the rule of law and the unwritten constitution. Arguably if Parliament and Cabinet and the Sovereign ever disagree, the Parliament will usually win, though the Sovereign is free to make his displeasure known and, if he is truly opposed to it, to abdicate (I'm even toying with having such an abdication have occurred sometime in the past, but I'm not sure what over.).
Oh, and if my dramatis personae list didn't make it clear, the reason why you see Alexander I and IV, or James IV and IX or James V and X, is because these are the Stuarts and the Kingdoms of Scotland and England, and now the four Pacifican Kingdoms, have had different kings and reigns and names. This is unlike the current British monarchy - which imposed today's Queen Elizabeth as Elizabeth II despite Scotland never having had an Elizabeth before. In the case of James, England's King James I - the creator of that edition of the Bible so many fundie Christians regard as utterly perfect - was Scotland's King James VI. Both countries had their first King Charles, though I believe a King Henry IX would've been Henry IX and I, while Charles II's son James II became James II and VII - James II of England and VII of Scotland.
As for Alexander? England has never had a King Alexander. Scotland, however, had three, the last of which was King Alexander III who died in the 1280s and, with his death, heralded the decades of war with England and Edward I, then Edward II, over English claims to suzerainty over Scotland (dating to the 11th Century and the overthrow of a certain fellow named MacBeth by rival claimants backed by England) that, of course, culminated in English defeat at Bannockburn, the Declaration of Abroath, and the evential rise of Robert the Bruce as King of Scotland.

By the way, can we have a better standard of showing our work for the OOBs? I'm looking at CT's list and still trying to figure out how many battleships he has total, and until otherwise shown, I'm only figuring one battleship in the Caribbean, not a squadron, since there are only 120 points paid for it.
Oh, and CT? That battleship is testing dangerous waters.

Yes, but he has two squadrons listed for 120 points, which is absolutely not the case. You could buy an upgraded squadron for 120, but he split his battleships up.
In other words, it's been in extreme error for a while now, and it matters, big time.
Also, listing the discrete costs for everything is rather important for everyone, and it's irritating to try and figure out who's got what where and if they actually have it or if they don't because they can't add properly.

Even if he did buy a single squadron for those 120 points, that would give him three battleships, not two. Given geopolitical reality, this is an important matter. It is necessary that I know if Germany has six battleships, or two, or none at all. It is also necessary that I know how many of his battleships are actually stationed in the Caribbean, as I have vital interests in the region.

The coup attempt will not be covered up. Anybody who has a mind to notice it will notice it. The official line is that the matter will be dealt with in short order and none of you have any reason for concern, we shall defend the embassies of foreign nations as though they were our very homes.

This is not in anyway acceptable. Ben was called on his naval errors a week ago, by multiple posters, errors that effectively give him more than 100 free points.
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

And maybe he missed them. I'll speak to him. Afterwards he'll have 2 days to clean it up.

Um?
"Not to mention the artillery assets they have within striking distance of Florida!" "
Where would he have them in distance of Florida? Closest Ben has to the mainland US is Hispaniola. Unless you forgot that it's Rome that owns Cuba, at least last time I checked?

Rome doesn't have heavy bombers, siege artillery, and a possible squadron of battleships in the area, which is close enough to Florida for washtub rafts to make it to Miami. This is serious military hardware with an offensive only purpose, and if you're going to tell me he can't use those bombers to strike the mainland, his fleet to leapfrog the artillery up to my coast on the islands, you're dead wrong.
Oh, and please don't nitpick the rhetoric of my private staff meetings.
I stated very clearly and in no uncertain terms that I intend to maintain the Monroe Doctrine in the Caribbean, and that serious military buildup would be heavily frowned on. I just now noticed that Germany put all that crap there, and rather than start off in a state of war with Germany, I figured I'd give him a chance to pull out his heavy attack units.

Charon caught some embarrassing math errors of mine in my OOB.
My escort destroyers have been fixed - they should have one bonus each, not two. I've added a few more of each to rebalance the points, thereby spending the same for my Navy at 905 total.

The roll for the event will not be public (y'all will not get to learn the table til after the game, consider it part of my pettiness if you like).

Screwball got a 6. From 1 to 3 is a bad event. From 4 to 6 is a good event.
Once again this post is invalid if edited. If any player was forgotten speak up and you will be rolled for in a seperate post.
