#1 Anyone Interested in Rogue Trader?
I have an idea for a Rogue Trader game. Any takers?

Rogue Trader-leader of men, holder of the warrant, jack of all trades and master of them all. Melee and social specialist, very capable.Cpl Kendall wrote:*raises hand*

Arch-Militant-mercenary, bounty hunter, bodyguard, or soldier. King of tactical skills and killing people very dead with guns.
Astropath Ascendant-powerful and skill astropath. Free soul bonding with every character.
Explorator-senior tech priest sent out into the void to find cool shit.
Missionary-He is carrying the Word of the Emperor into the dark. He will make it stick. Faith abilities, social, combat, he does it all.
Navigator-every rogue trader carries several. The young ones tend to be adventurous and live life to the hilt while they can. Cool warpy powers.
Seneschal-negotiator, spy master, and lore king. Very much a social and lore focused character.
Void Master-master spacer. Jack of all Trades and very good at technical space skills.

I'd go with the Arch-Militant then.

Just as an FYI, the Arch Militant is a mediocre (which is to say highly competent, but not death machines) melee combatant. With firearms they're unequaled.Cpl Kendall wrote:I'd go with the Arch-Militant then.

Thats fine. I prefer firearms, I can (I assume) just stick a bayonet on it for emergencies.

Considering DH has rules for that, did you really have to ask?Cpl Kendall wrote:Thats fine. I prefer firearms, I can (I assume) just stick a bayonet on it for emergencies.
One of the armament packages comes with dual bolt pistols, if you want to handle your close quarter fighting Indiana Jones style.

I wasn't sure how much RT took from DH...Cynical Cat wrote:

I'm more of a rifle/shotgun guy myself. Or flamers, cause fire is fun!

It's completely compatible (although the psychic powers section is different). You can run characters from either game. RT characters start with 5000xp (mostly prespent) and earn about 500xp a session.
RT has some nice hellguns, bolters, and flamers.

Seeing as I lack RT, I'm going to have to pick your brain regarding character creation, as I assume the backgrounds and such are different.

Somewhat. You have the same starting backgrounds, but +5 to each stat and then you go through back history creating process that gives you a few more traits.Cpl Kendall wrote:Seeing as I lack RT, I'm going to have to pick your brain regarding character creation, as I assume the backgrounds and such are different.

Whatever. Unless more people want to play, there won't be a game. Of course I only announced the game today so we have time.
Here's an example of character creation so you can see what I'm talking about:

I picked up RT before Thanksgiving, and I liked what I saw; I'm interested. Probably looking at playing a Void Master.
I'm somewhat confused though, you can only take a skill 3 times, and I'm seeing career paths that start with a skill, and then have <skill> <skill+10> and <skill+20> as advances. Isn't that contradictory?

Career paths always include the skills you start with automatically because in DH (and presumably future RT products) there are background options where you lose/trade out those skills and might want to buy them.White Haven wrote:I picked up RT before Thanksgiving, and I liked what I saw; I'm interested. Aah, so if you /don't/ buy out of them, does buying the skill at first rank give you the +10, the +10 the +20, and the +20 off-limits, or can you just not buy the skill at first rank?

No, it's just there to give you the option to buy basic class skills if you've taken an alternate package.White Haven wrote:Aah, so if you /don't/ buy out of them, does buying the skill at first rank give you the +10, the +10 the +20, and the +20 off-limits, or can you just not buy the skill at first rank?

If I wanted to get in touch with my inner axe murderer, would I go with Rogue Trader or Priest?
Half-Damned, All Hero.
Tev: You're happy. You're Plotting. You're Evil.
Me: Evil is so inappropriate. I'm ruthless.
Tev: You're turning me on.
I Am Rage. You Will Know My Fury.

Both are melee death machines. Rogue Traders are slightly better at melee than ranged combat, ditto for missionaries. Rogue traders tend to be better socially than missionaries (which is saying a lot), but missionaries can get faith abilities. Void Master is just below them in melee competency.SirNitram wrote:If I wanted to get in touch with my inner axe murderer, would I go with Rogue Trader or Priest?

Okay, first part of character creation is, of course, character idea. From there we move to homeworld
Death World
Void Born
Forge World
Hive World
Imperial World
Noble Born
These work almost exactly like their DH equivalents except for money and that all starting stats are 5 points higher. So choose your home worlds and do your rolls and then take your free reroll. RT doesn't do divinations, but it does have this cool lifepath thing. This is the first step.
