#1 Media players
Was wondering what players do people use for playing movies/music. Partially for professional purposes, partially for interest and discovering new tools.
My setup is very basic considering my techie background.
Windows Media Player 11, serves most of my movie and DVD needs. I like it's media library and it's rather quick and stable.
Cyberlink DVD player deals with any DVD WMP11 can't deal with.[/b]
My main music player is Foobar2000, a light weight program thats very easily customisable.
I run it in a very stripped down mode (in terms of UI), mostly because I'm not looking at the program while it's running so I don't particularly care what it looks like.
I imagine most people use WInAmp?

Used to be WMP for me too with VLC and DivX Player as backup for the stuff my WMP couldn't handle but since the recent DivX update apparently fucked up Media Player (AND DivX Player is no longer working to begin with) I more or less use VLC exclusively. Apart from a few configuration peculiarities it's a perfectly satisfactory media player.
And yes, I'm using WinAmp for audio.

I'm having trouble getting the win7 dvd i burned to actually install from boot. Is this a common issue, or am I just SOL here?

On Windows, I run the old mplay32 for almost everything, and mplayer for everything else. mplay32 is the minimal program packaged with Windows since 95 - small, simple, fast, and quite effective.
I use whatever the default is for DVDs. I think it WMP, but whatever, I put the disc in and it plays. That's all I care about.
On Linux, I use a play script that is very simple: play filename plays that file the exits. To get fancier, I once again turn to mplayer.
For dvds there, xine is what I use, though I kinda hate it. (It sends fake keystrokes every few seconds as a hack to fool the screensaver, which might be ok if I didn't like typing up things while watching the movie in another window.....)

Music: Itunes. (I have an ipod, so sue me)
Movies: MediaPlayer Classic. (With that kickass uber codex pack).
DVDs? Ack. I just hope for the best and a mix of the other programs.
For esoterica I use VLC Media player. (FLAC, etc').
