When will the act drop?

He shoulders his way to almost the front, eyes falling on her predatorially... and then rest on one of her would be 'suitors,' if he were given the chance. As she struts by, he catches the man's gaze... and the man stands rigid for a moment, before removing his wallet and tossing most of its paper contents to the floor where she makes her show. He is quickly pushed aside as he comes out of his daze, and has no time to honestly think of it as his wallet is getting tugged on by others in the crowd.

My my, the game is afoot.

She sees the money fall and breathes a inward sigh of relief. She did not want to have to whore her talents much longer for the drunk. Though, in truth, she is one to talk since she has arrived. She bends down and picks up the money in a move that looks like it is part of the dance. The fringes on her skirt move aside as she playfully tucks the money in her garter on her thigh. And then she feints shock, as she dances away from the man in question. Reel them in, throw them out. Mama, I am glad you ain't here to see this.

He laughed aloud in amusement. One human falls, another rises. Such is the way of the beast.

He watches the woman continue her song and dance, eager to make her acquaintance. But not for the same reason the other men do.

He slides around to the stage and leans against it, letting her bask in the spotlight she apparently thirsts for as much as he would her blood. The mood would prove useful.

A few more steps, a few more dances. She is parched. She goes to the bar for a drink, wiping her brow along the way. She has earned her tips for the night, at least, so she thought.

"Hiya, doll" She says breathlessly to the bartender. "Gin please."

Marcus had no luck, at least for the first hour or so. Then pure blind chance came to his rescue. A bartender he was talking to drew a blank but one of the guys at the counter, a stocky unshaven man perks up. "I've seen that buddy."

Marcus thanked whatever deity it must be that was up there for this moment of not screwing him like a two dollar whore. Maybe he'd go to a church and confess in repayment for this.

Marcus looked at the man. "Really? You seen him recently?"

"Not the guy," said the guy at the bar. "The car."

Marcus nodded, not yet taking a seat. His hand reached into his coat pocket, seeming as if he was fishing for his wallet. "And?"

Marcus smiled, almost naively. "Would you prefer we do the operation here or somewhere more private?"

He meanders to the bar, offering a slow nod to the bartender.

"An impressive show you put on there, miss." He allowed the tone of his voice to fall back to his roots. "With some of those twists, you must have pulled in an impressive haul as well. I haven't seen a show like that in ..some time." He gives her a relaxed wink.

Marcus openned the wallet and dropped a 5 in front of the man. "Now then, when did you see that car and where was it going?"

"True, miss. But so's Dallas, and so's Memphis, and I might say you just blew the last show I saw there right out of the water." He takes the cigarette from his lips, still unlit. "The stage is your heart, isn't it?"

She actually looks up and over at him. "I love to perform. I never got much chance before this joint. Wright really took a chance on me." She gives a small sweet grin. "Thanks. It means a lot."

Marcus narrowed his eyes at the man then dropped another five. He spared a glance at the person in charge, trying to guage how often they saw trouble here, and what they'd do about it.

"Well if it's only worth ten bucks to you, I think I'll keep it to my self." Two other patrons sniggered. The mouthy asshole who knew the street version of supply and demand seemed to be a regular.

Marcus sighed and pulled out a twenty. Placing it on the counter he made another look around, this time trying to spot thugs that would try to break up a fight.

"That's more like it." He scooped up the money. "The cops towed it away from the train station this afternoon."

"It's unfortunate, miss, that we hadn't crossed paths sooner. I had a hand in running an establishment such as this. Warm room, lit stage.. everyone was taken care of on my watch." He offered a smile. "I know how it is to pull yourself up on your own, making your own name, getting those beginnings.."

"Sounds like you and Wright got lots to talk about" She smiles genuinely. "He's 'round here somewhere." She looks around, not seeing him, she takes another drink. "Sometimes I miss just being a simple girl, but then, I hear the music, and that all changes. Especially when I sing the blues."

Marcus nodded. "Thanks for the info." Marcus turned to leave, he made a note to himself to remember that man. When he was outside Marcus waited inside his car for a few minutes, thinking. If the car was down there it meant one of four things. Eric has ditched town, he's still in the trainyards, he's been picked up by cargo again, or he just ditched the car and was somewhere else. In other words there wasn't too much of a rush. It was time to go church hunting. Preferably the abandoned looking sort.

As Marcus went looking for abandoned churches in a young and rapidly expanding city he passed the burnt out shell of the church fire that had been in the news yesterday. The perpetrator of that particular crime was on the move.
