#1 Heroes: Rebirth

Post by B4UTRUST »

"Ultima forces are reporting engagement with Omnicorp remnants. Sounds like a simple mop up operation."
"Any sign of outside influence from Her Digital Badness?"
"None, sir. I keep telling you that She's not coming back."
"I know, I know. Just hard to believe that She's dead."
"Hard to believe? You lost a dozen comp nodes, crashed Kibo knows how many millions of systems worldwide and nearly collapsed the web to prevent Her from scurrying into another datahole to regroup. You damn near lost your mind to that Thing. Twice. It wasn't an easy fight. You got Her."
"We'll see. Just keep an eye on the situation. Any sign of those bots operating on anything other than basic combat instruction, I want to know."
"Of course, boss."
"Thanks, Raven. Anything else going on of note?"
"The south pole observatory has reported the appearance of what appears to be a tight formation of multiple Near Earth Objects. NASA's investigating with the assistance of some metas from Station Zero."
"Anything dangerous?"
"Unknown. Too many variables to calculate collision probabilities or give an accurate threat analysis at this point."
"Keep me posted then, Raven."
"Aye, aye, captain."

This is a restart of the Heroes game. Same setting, new characters. Game is set approximately eight months following the Omnicorp rising incidents. Omni, possessed by a malevolent AI, took control of the militarized robotic forces of Omnicorp and started a war against all of mankind. Only at the cost of countless lives of both metas and baselines alike was the war brought to an end.

Life has begun to stablize again in the wake of the destruction. Remnant Omnicorp forces have been found forming pocket resistance areas though it is strongly believed that they are fighting on nothing more than basic combat coding and algorithms and are no longer lead by Omni or the Intelligence that controlled him. The world, seemingly, is safe for the moment once more. Or as safe as it ever gets. With the loss of so many heroes, fate has given way to the rise of new threats to the world and its people.

As always, it's up to the team to decide whether to pursue the game as independents or government agents working for Ultima. Each has its pros and cons to be found out and weighed.

Character creation is going to be closely monitored and scrutinized, so the sins and mistakes of the past can hopefully be prevented here in the future.

Sheets will consist of the following:
Name(Real and aliases, etc)
Physical bio(age, race, physical description, etc)
History/Character Bio
Affiliations
Special Equipment(if you're gonna by iron man the power suit goes here type of thing)
Powers

Anything else that I feel should be included in the sheets later will be asked for. It's late right now so my brain isn't entirely functional so I may have forgotten something in my haste.

Codename: Legion
Real Name: Classified
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 235 lbs

Hair: Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Race: Caucassian
Build: Slender - muscular.

Apparent Age: Late 20's - Early 30's
Real Age: 54

Affiliation: Brotherhood (Disbanded), The Guard (resigned), Bureau of Metahuman Affairs (Currently Assigned to work with Ultima teams)

.:History:.

***Subject Early History classified; Department of Metahuman Affairs Project: Gladiator***

In 1980's made his appearance on the world scene as a member of the Brotherhood, one of the precursor groups to Genocide, using the name Drain. He worked as a double agent within the Brotherhood for a undisclosed Governmental Agency, helping to assist in their eventual downfall and dissolution after a assault by U.S. Striker and the Smashers. Legion, taking a new name, signed up for the Atlanta based Metahuman group The Guard during the 1990's. Legion resigned from the Guard shortly before the attack by the Black Aeon, going to work directly for the Department of Metahuman Affairs.

******Subject History 2000 - 2010; Classified Department of Metahuman Affairs Above Top Secret*****

As of 2010, Legion has begun interagency work between the Department of Metahuman Affairs and the Ultima Bureau.

..::Quirks::..
From extended and sometimes prolonged usage of his powers, Legion tends to speak in the plural form, especially when he has the memories of others sharing his minds pace.

Legion's face is very plain, very standard. There is no noticeable features - from eye color, to facial hair to shape of the nose.

Legion tends to favor his right leg when he moves - there is no detectable medical reason for this, and Legion has never complained of pain in that leg.

Use of his Power Absorption abilities causes incredible ecstasy in Legion - due to a release of dopamine and endorphins into his brain. Subject sometimes has problems releasing his 'victims' before doing harm to them.

..::Powers::..
Origin of Powers - Government Genetic Experimentation (Project Gladiator)

.:Accelerated Healing:.
subject is capable of accelerated healing of most injuries. Cuts and mid-depth lacerations are healed in seconds, broken bones mend within a few hours, even some organ regeneration has been witnessed. Only major injuries take a extended amount of time to heal, and even those are significantly quicker than most normal humans. Because of this accelerated healing factor, the subject does not get sickened by disease, and mild forms of chemical attacks do not affect him, and the effects of aging are slowed considerably.

.:Power Absorption:.
Subject has the ability to absorb the energy, superpowers, and intelligence of others through physical contact. This is due to the fact the subject extracts both a small bit of DNA and the life force of his victim, and incorporates it into his own. These modifications are temporary, with the duration depending on how much of the life force the subject extracts (limited by length of contact), though with prolonged contact, the subject can permanently absorb the powers and life essence of his victims. Effects upon victims of this power tend to vary with the amount of energy drawn from them - anywhere from a slight dizziness, to fatigue, fainting, or even death.

While the subject will retain memories and added intelligence of his victims longer than he will possess their powers, his own mind will reassert itself, and he will lose access to them within twenty-four hours.

[Absorption Limitations: Tenseconds of constant contact equals approximately twenty minutes of power absorption, with a log. scale representing the point of Death (approximatly thirty minutes of constant contact for a metahuman, two minutes for a baseline). Draining of baseline humans only grants a slight increase in physical traits. Subject must be a live at the time of the Leeching in order to effect any form of transfer. For permanent power gain, subject must die ONLY from the Leeching. ]

..::Equipment::..

Springfield Armory M1911A1 (Modified)
.45 calibur automatic pistol modified to allow a "burst auto" mode - a three round shot fired in rapid succession - and recoil suppression. Uses extended 20 round clips. Two such pistols are carried on a chest bandolier.

Contact Suit
A suit of body armor composed of two-inch-wide circular discs that overlap like scale armour, covered by a matte black finished titanium/kevlar weave with additional ceramic plates protecting vital areas. The discs are composed of a silicon carbide ceramic matrices and laminates, much like the larger ceramic plates.

The suit includes a pair of easily removable gloves made of the same material as the body armor, minimizing exposed skin which may come in accidental contact with allies.

:: Physical Bio ::
Name: Matthew Fioris
Alias: Sirocco
Age: 25
Ancestry: South American (Chile) / White (Scottish)
Physical Description: 6' 4" tall, with an athletic build. Longish, slender fingers, has thick, somewhat long & shaggy black hair, wears in a slim moustache & goatee. Normally wears relaxed, though well-made clothing, wearing suits when he must. Subject is ambidextrous, able to use either hand for nearly all tasks.

Affiliations:
Special Field Agent of Ultima, still in good standing.

:: History ::
Because his parents were killed when he was 6 years old, he was raised by his uncle, a single FBI agent who worked 60 hours a week typically. He did help instill Matthew with the same ability to concentrate that he had, and the same patient pursuit of what he desired - which eventually became wanting to join the FBI like his uncle, and help stop those who would murder innocents like his parents.

During his childhood, he was always conflicted with duality as well as a result - the desire to learn, and the desire to fight; the desire to understand subtleties, and the desire to win. It seemed appropriate that he was able to use both his right and left hands for most activities growing up. As a result, six months after he moved in with his uncle, he began to take kempo karate from an instructor his uncle knew while he was at school. He was not yet seven years old.

When Matthew Fioris had just graduated from high school, he entered college with the intention of taking the classes necessary to become a fully qualified FBI agent. He chose to have his specialty in college be physics, since he truly wished to study how bullets themselves moved, as well as how specific kinds of force affected different materials, all the better to better do his job. It seemed ironic that his abilities began to manifest during his practice on the firing range, which ultimately led to his nickname and alias - Flaregun, due to an incident where he was very stressed out over classes, and every bullet fired from the gun both burnt the target on impact and hit with an impact one would expect from a gun much larger than his handgun.

He decided to take a minor in Fire Sciences, having just begun to separate his ability to create force from his ability to create and control fire, and dropped out of most school-related activities to practice both of these abilities while in the football field where he usually practiced his karate at night, every night while at school.

Though he tried to be careful, it was these practice sessions in addition to his college studies that led him to be approached on graduation (with a Master's in Physics, and a Bachelor's in Fire Studies) not by the FBI, but by Ultima. He accepted, and is now a rising agent, known by his nickname as his alias.

:: Special Equipment::
- Kimber .45 handgun; two-tone metals used (red/grey).
- three magazines of ammo

:: Powers ::
Force Control: Able to project kinetic force with specifics including exact area, and whether used for offense (a kinetic impact with a specific relative velocity and direction), or defense (deadening kinetic energy in a certain area to defend against physical strikes).
(When subject uses telekinetic abilities, faint heat shimmers usually occur as a side-effect of its use; with especially strenuous use of telekinesis, faint bluish flames appear around the edges of the telekinetic effect.)
(Current Limit: Able to exert 500 psi (kpsi = kilo-psi) in one area, or half that in two places, or 100 psi in an area; able to cancel or create up to 500 N of force with a single object or 100 N in an area)

Fire Control: Able to create, feed, extinguish, and finely manipulate how fire burns, and its temperature.
(Subject has been observed being capable of finely manipulating the fire's shape when used in conjunction with his telekinetic ability.)
(Current Limit: Able to create fire constantly up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit for a total of five seconds, or able to affect temperature of existing flame.)

Name(Real and aliases, etc) : Jerri Stevenson/ Heidi Roberts Stevenson
Codename Gemini

Physical bio : Gemini : Female. 23 years old. Brown hair, brown eyes.
Jerri : brown straight hair is shoulder-length, although often worn up out of her face in a bun. Slender, bookish, wears glasses for near-sightedness.
Heidi : hair is cut above the ears, with ruffled curls topping the crown. Athletic and fit, a woman who seems to work out often. No glasses, sharply angled face, piercing eyes.

History/Character Bio : Dr Louis Stevenson was a scientist who worked for Ultima, studying what made a Meta erupt. He had a single daughter, Jerri, who had been diagnosed at school with ADHD and Anger Management issues (which might have been dealt with if Dad hadn't been a workaholic).

Instead, Dr Stevenson decided to treat her problems with chemistry of his own. Creating a serum, he made a modern-day Jekyll & Hyde -- Intelligent, calm focused Jerri, and the equally intelligent, physically stronger, predatory Heidi. Dr Stevenson continued to try to perfect the serum, in an attempt to separate the two girls permanently, one a genius, one a full strength-based meta.

Jerri and Heidi soon found ways to communicate with each other, first by notes, then by voice mail. Finally, they have created a way to 'talk' via a mirror, although only simple thoughts and feelings may be passed that way, and the non-dominate personality recalls it more as a vivid dream. However, for the most part, when one side was dominate, the other blacked out.

This is why Jerri has no memory of what happened the night Dr Stevenson was killed in his lab. Heidi admits to being awake that night, but what happened she cannot or will not say. Either way, Ultima found evidence of a break-in by at least two metahumans, possibly to steal either Dr. Stevenson's work, or Dr Stevenson himself. The wreck left in the lab showed a fight, but no one could say what started it.

Either way, it was the first case Jerri and Heidi worked together on as Jekyll, Jerri using her forensics skills and Heidi working as the muscle to find and bring the two meta to justice (along with a well-deserved ass-kicking). Since that time, Jerri and Heidi have graduated college and are now working for Ultima in a double capacity (and double pay, after a long argument with Ultima's payroll.)

Affiliations : Ultima

Special Equipment : Father's lab, now Jerri's. Access to assorted chemicals. The Ingredients for the Serum. At least a week's worth of Serum in a storage locker. (The serum takes RNA and amino acids in a certain combination, a lab, and at least 24hrs to create. Jerri adds the spearmint oil just for flavor.) Heidi has various swords, guns, and body armor.
The Serum: The serum is the only way for her to change from Jerri to Heidi. One full dose takes 3-4 minutes to take effect and lasts 60 minutes, then Heidi reverts to Jerri unless a new serum is taken before the 55 minute point. They are not sure what would happen if she takes more than 8 doses in a single 24 hour period, however. Jerri has suggested strongly its' a bad idea, and so far Heidi agrees.

Powers: Jerri: Extremely high intellect and scientific, forensic knowledge. Can pull the CIS tricks in her lab, as well as knowing the true formula for The Serum.
Heidi: Hilda's strength is the typical 'hero tank' : some natural toughness to take blows, can punch through steel, can throw cars, etc. Max deadlift seems to be between 2 and 3 tons.
Changing between the two seems to heal all wounds sustained. Falling unconscious leaves Gemini in the last state assumed, (or until the current dose wears off.)

Name(Real and aliases, etc):Richard Congdon. Alias. Sunrise
Age: 36 (Life expectancy was 80, now it is 400 or more)

Race: Used to be of english, german, and russian descent, is now none of these.

Physical description: 1.7 m (without extending his neck) 120 kg, black skin (with a yellow throat) black shell (with golden flecks). Somewhat shorter than human legs that end in large webbed feet, heavily scaled with a flipper like flange that runs from his elbow to his knee. Hands end in long clawless (he keeps them trimmed) partially webbed fingers (about to the first joint). Has a turtle like head. A short muzzle, large eyes, wide mouth with a beak instead of teach behind fleshy lips. No nose...

History/Character Bio
Richard grew up in a nice middle class family and decided to go to college to study Biology, particularly herpetology and ecology. In graduate school he specialized in the effects of pollution and habitat fragmentation on populations of the Blandings Turtle, and after obtaining his Ph.D went to work at the American Museum of Natural History as a post-doc. It was when doing his research in the wetlands of Michigan that it happened. An agricultural company had been doing some work with mutagens in order to create new wheat strains, however the effect was somewhat stronger than they expected, causing the genomes of organisms concurrently exposed to high doses of the mutagen to fuse, as well as creating other aberrant effects. Because they were doing this research illegally, they dumped illegally. Richard was exposed as he did a survey of turtle populations, and subsequently got bitten by a pissed off turtle. A lot of pain later, and he ended up the creature that he is today. However it seems that universities when they find out what he is will hardly even look at his CV. It is not the scientists. His papers get published, he gets invited to conferences, he gets research grants. It is administration. No one wants to take the flak of hiring a freak as faculty. At this point he is bitter, misanthropic, and disillusioned. However he has found a certain calling. In addition to doing research as a post doc and under contract for the WWF, he works for the WWF in other ways. With the emergence of metahumans, the WWF has found itself in the unique position to hire metahumans to protect habitats and animal populations from poachers, and other threats. This is something Sunrise undertakes with a certain fanatical zeal, and occasionally has him working with Ultima agents on certain projects of mutual interest.

Affiliations: Post-Doc, American Museum of Natural History, Affiliated with SCB and WWF. Independent Metahuman.
Special Equipment:he has equipment relating to field and lab work at a research station.

Powers: Absorbs the energy contained in photons of light of any wavelength (radio, visible, infared, gamma etc) and release it to do work on objects and modify his own body. Essentially absorbing photons and using it to power physical enhancement, and simulated super strength.

Maximum Energy Storage: 50 mJ
Max Absorption: 5 mW
Max Instant Exertion: 2.5 mJ (as a measure of KE he can impart on an object. This is the KE required to fastball a heavy truck, or gently toss an M1)
Energy Absorption in sunlight: 2 kW basking, 1 kW in normal activity (At this rate he has to bask in full sun for 7 hours to fully charge. Less time with an alternative source of heat/light with a higher energy intensity, or if he has some sort of horrific parabolic mirror contraption.
Has no conscious control over whether he absorbs energy or not, and going over his limit will result in a wave of pure energy being unleashed in all directions equivalent to 25 mJ, and knocks him unconscious. Thankfully he also knows how much he can store and has stored, and manages his stored energy by periodic releases (Loud finger snaps, small, local earthquakes, kicking ass in strength contests)

What he can do with this:

Offensive: Is capable of exerting energy via his physical appendages (hands, feet, jaws etc) in the form of direct kinetic energy (hitting something) and torque forces in order to engage in physical combat.

Utility:Can use this power to accelerate healing and increase his speed and reaction time within his own body length. So while he cannot move faster, he can strike very quickly and react to threats supernaturally fast. For healing, he still needs the raw materials needed to rebuild tissues (IE he needs to eat to obtain proteins and lipids and such) but through this he can heal very quickly even from debilitating wounds.

Defense: In addition to being able to absorb light based attacks (read: lasers, microwave emitters, radio-wave death beams, heat rays etc. Particle beams fuck him up as normal. He has never tried to intercept a gamma ray beam...) up to five megawatts in power, and the use of offensive kinetic energy for defense (blocking a punch or wrecking ball) Sunrise can also use energy from sunlight to ossify his skin in plates that resemble armor. This can protect him against things like sword cuts, (up to those done by light-brawler metahumans,) shrapnel, and reduce the wound from many types of gun rounds (though AP rounds make him a sad turtle). Essentially it gives him more durability when it comes to being degloved after having been thrown at high speed.

Real Name: Alfred Baker.
Codename: NeXT(NEtworked eXtelligence Technoentity)

Appearance: Vegetative mid-20s Caucasian male. (Projection) Alternates between a featureless humanoid and a copy of his pre-accident shape.

Bio: When Metas fight, things get broken. Such is life. The dollar sums are reported dutifully on every 'so and so saved us from whatever' newscast. Sometimes the human cost is mentioned, but always abstractly. For those caught in the middle, it's less simple than a number.

Caught in the backlash of two potent telepaths, Alfred's brain shutdown from overload. In an attempt to avoid costly public lawsuits, Ultima arranged for his transfer to state of the art facilities. For a few months, the feeding tube, respirator, and direct neural stimulation, an experimental measure to prevent him from slipping beyond the line of no return, were his existance.

Then he woke up. He saw his crippled body, heard it's heartbeat, saw it's assistance in the most base needs. And while he was looking down on it, it slowly dawned on him that information was sloshing past him like a sea current. He let himself be carried.

For a while, this ghost in the machine was happy to watch events unfold, quietly amass data, and keep it's existance a secret from everyone. Ultima was viewed as particularly dangerous; it would want the secret to it all. But you can't run forever.

As he became convinced that Ultima had detected the presense of this vast, omnipresent intelligence in the networks, threading across the world, he revealed himself quietly as NeXT, a next-generation AI that had been growing in the web. It demonstrated it's meta-like capabilities, and was accepted as a member.

He thinks Ultima has no idea of his true nature. Nonetheless, moving his body around is a bitch, but a bitch worth suffering through for his personal security.

Abilities: Cyberkinesis, Cyberpathy(Can operate, hack, and understance any computer with a network uplink.), light control(Increase or decrease ambient light, project holograms, short-lived laser pulses). All powers require some kind of presense in then area.. What a good thing cellphones now offer data links. Light pulses can produce lethal burns on unprotected flesh through normal clothing, or blindness through most eye protection. Can produce more powerful lasers from especially bright light sources, or through violently overloading his current interface, leaving it a smoking, melting bit of scrap

Note: Presently heavily distrusted by Ultima due to Omnicorp incident.

Name: George Sanjetti
Codename: Inferno
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 167 lbs.
Hair: Brown
Eyecolor: Blue
Age: 24
Race: Italian, German

History: George was born in a small town in Central New York. When he was eight, Genocide struck. His town was mostly spared but one rogue meta passing by annihilated an entire block of his town, there were almost no survivors, and George was among the few through sheer luck. George went into adoption centers, bouncing around the state a few times before ending up in Yonkers by the time he was a teen.

When he was seventeen, his powers manifested during a robbery. George released a burst of energy on accident which took off the arm of a robber, burned through the wall of the building, and rocketing into the sky. The government was on-hand within twenty minutes and took George in for processing and training. When Black Arion hit, George was going through training and mental exercises in North Carolina. It took several years for the proper mental and magical barriers to be put in place that would assist George in daily life, but four years ago it was complete and George entered the services of Ultima.

Over the past four years Inferno has ended up taking more and more public roles in Ultima, becoming one of the faces of the organization for the public partly do to his heroic personality, partly because of his good looks.

Powers: Inferno has two powers which are intricately tied to one another. The first is an ability to channel energy. Tests have shown that George has access to what is essentially a fusion chamber within his body. The temperatures and destructive force would eat away at him in seconds if not for his second power, regeneration. Inferno has a very powerful regenerative capability which keeps him alive. Ultima spent years creating both mental and magical barriers which hamper Inferno's access to the fusion generation inside of him.

With this restriction Inferno's blasts can only come from his hands and are mostly kinetic in nature, able to throw a man about 15 feet and give him second degree burns. In a single burst this translates to roughly 24 kJ. 14 of it in kinetic force, the remaining 10 in heat. Inferno can release a stream of energy however, with the same amount of force. His regenerative abilities now are very good, able to regenerate limbs within a week and all but major injuries in minutes.

Records as to the limits of Inferno's energy blast capabilities are classified information.

Equipment: Two 9mm handguns.

Tev/Fisher/Charon - need hard numbers on powers. Get with me and we'll work them out
Firewalker - I am seriously worried about your character's survivability or actual usefulness in a party aside from working with Nit on intelligence and number crunching. Your IQ may come in handy in an investigation, it probably won't serve you very well against someone who can benchpress a Mac Truck or run at near mach velocities... If you still wish to play talk to me and we'll see about trying to draw you up a character that may be more closely inline with the type of action/adventure you're going to see within this game. It had a horrible tendency in the last game to happen suddenly, violently, and all over the place...

For Tev, we are looking at similar numbers for the two of us. 2.5 MJ Max instantaneous kinetic energy.

Fisher and Charon approved. Tev, CT and I will discuss the fine details so we can get the numbers and Tev can edit her sheet and be approved.

Firewalker, the sheet you sent me is not exactly a workable one. The idea of converting ones self to pure plasma and burning at approx 10mil degrees centigrade? You do realize that's only a few million degrees cooler than the sun, right? You're talking about a fuckton of heat and power there. I'm afraid I'm not going to allow that. Hell, the first time you did that everyone in a few miles of you would probably die from burning to death, not to mention cases of dehydration, heat stroke, etc on individuals surviving further out much less the global climate implications of having something only slightly cooler than the sun go off on the surface of the earth. Global warming, polar ice caps melting, death and destruction on a massive scale...

Additionally to give you an idea of how bad this is. My guy, Mr. "Oh hi I have a fusion generator in my chest" for all intents and purposes, if he reaches his end game he won't be CLOSE to that level of heat. Not to mention since you're just super-heated plasma you can't actually be hurt and with that amount of heat you could literally just melt anything that was annoying you.

Name: Project Lycurgus internal designation 'XC-001 Alpha'
Public Alias (defunct): "Sentinel One"

Height: 14 feet, 7 inches
Weight: 4,120 pounds empty, 4,575 pounds fully loaded

Physical Description: XC-001 Alpha is a war machine. An enormous, bipedal robot mech, with two fully articulated legs supporting a main body with a pair of weapon arms attached to either side, similar in broad strokes to ED-209 from the Robocop movies. Unlike the fictional version however, XC-001 is clearly and visibly designed for police duties. It sports a set of blue and red lights atop its main body, along with the emblems of Omnicorp's "Law Enforcement" division, and other, presently-blank areas clearly designed to incorporate the symbols of whichever municipal police organization the robot eventually was made a part of. The robot is a mix of dark blue and gunmetal gray, though not for camouflage, as it carries large spotlights and floodlights on either side of its "shoulders", above the weapon arms. The weapon arms rotate vertically, and the entire main body does so horizontally, while the articulated legs are capable of surprising agility, allowing the robot to bring its weapons to bear on targets in any direction. Heavily armored and physically imposing (by design), it has no apparent 'head', though its optical and other sensors are located in the upper portion of its "chest", and thereby it can often appear to be "peering down" at whatever it is addressing. Its voice is gruff, deep, and monotone, imposing and authoritative all at once, designed by Omnicorp's expert behavioral scientists to grant maximum chance of its commands being obeyed by the public in general.

((For those having trouble picturing the robot, I recommend this link for the general idea.))

History: XC-001 Alpha was a prototype police robot created by Omnicorp Law Enforcement, a division of Omnicorp international. Project Lycurgus' (named after the legendary law-giver of Classical Sparta) original design was for a manned battle robot whose armor and firepower would give police the capacity to deal with the ever-more dangerous metahuman incursions into major metropolitan areas. When it became clear that such a thing would pose enormous training and personnel concerns, the project was re-purposed to provide an unmanned, fully automated police robot, controlled via an Artificial Intelligence. The intention was to give police a weapon that could be deployed and programmed to local specifications, for the primary purposes of "heavy" law enforcement duties, riot control, counter-terrorism, and anti-metahuman action, while still retaining a focus on the core police duties of crime prevention, civic order, and public safety.

There was nothing wrong with the theory, indeed several major police departments had already begun budgeting to order a small number of "Sentinel One" robots for their forces, but the events surrounding the destruction of Omnicorp and the devastating war that ensued thereafter, ended the project, the department, and quite nearly the robot itself. The original prototype had only been finished for a matter of weeks, and was still undergoing field tests when Omnicorp's descent into chaos erupted, and only its designation as a "police" project, rather than a "military" one prevented the rogue AI controlling the Omnicorp war machine from re-purposing it as yet another monster-weapon to be deployed for the annihilation of humanity. The project was abandoned, and the prototype placed into cold storage and promptly forgotten about.

All records pertaining to its creation (save those stored within the robot itself) were lost in the destruction of Omnicorp, as Omnicorp's main robotics lab was destroyed by Ultima after a brutal engagement in the Arizona Desert, but the storage facility that the robot had been relegated to survived the war. For seven months, it remained in an extended power-down mode, its fractal AI frozen at initialization, its systems periodically checked by maintenance bots. There the robot might have remained to this day, save that the facility suffered a massive power failure seven months after it arrived, triggering the automated emergency subroutines that included activating any functional robots under their own power, so as to reduce overall power drain on the main facility. Once activated, the robot left the facility, attempting to fulfill its operating-level directives, vague though they were, to the best of its abilities.

It continues to do so.

Character Bio: Leaving aside the question of whether AIs are "alive" or not, one could be forgiven for imagining that XC-001 Alpha is not living, but rather a simple drone of some sort. For a battle robot, XC-001 Alpha is quite placid, particularly by comparison to the hell-infused monsters that are more commonly associated with Omnicorp's robots. It is patient, calm, happy to render assistance to any passerby who requests it, and speaks in polite tones, utterly belying its imposing appearance and scale. Being a law enforcement robot, it does a fair bit of law enforcement, whether or not the local authorities wish it to. Strong emotions, such as fear, anger, hatred, rage, passion, happiness, or despair, seem to be beyond its capabilities, and as a result, the terrible violence it can unleash in a split second is almost more horrifying for the suddenness with which it can appear. XC-001 Alpha interprets its protocols to "Protect civilian life" and "Preserve the Public Order" in a ruthlessly literal fashion, and while its programming is sophisticated enough to refrain from committing overt atrocities (opening fire on a riotous crowd, for instance), it can and will deploy brutally lethal force against those who cross certain "lines" programmed into it. Still, the only hints that one gets that the robot is anything more sophisticated than a mindless (if sophisticated) drone, come not in flashy displays of emotion, but through far more subtle means, a fact easily understood when one considers what an AI actually is.

Artificial Intelligences are complex computer systems designed to simulate consciousness to the closest possible degree, which is not all that close. While there are several methods to achieve this goal, the most common one is the use of fractal algorithms, in short, machine code that re-writes itself based on sense data and experiential results fed through complicated equations. This code is then run, new results are generated, and these in turn are fed back through the system once again. Over time, fractal AIs achieve their own 'personalities' based on the unique changes to their underlying code, a process not of growth but of gradual divergence from the original template. This process can be influenced by "training" the AI, subjecting it to stimuli and inputs to foster the sort of "growth" that is desired.

Accordingly, when one says that XC-001 Alpha is a "young" AI, the term does not quite mean the same thing it would mean in a child. Due to the destruction of Omnicorp and the robot's lengthy period in storage, its AI was never granted sufficient time to diverge from its original programming to a discernible degree, and the "training" it was supposed to undergo was never actually completed. Released unformed onto the world at large, XC-001 Alpha's AI is, to put it mildly, well out of its depth. Worse yet, the AI was programmed with a basic operating system, modeled roughly off of Azimovian principles (heavily modified of course). It was intended that this would be supplemented with a series of detailed protocols provided by whichever law enforcement agency purchased the robot. These of course were never uploaded, thus leaving the robot with nothing to fall back upon save for its (fortunately extensive) libraries, and its AI core parameters. It comprehends nothing of politics and media hype, and does not understand that Omnicorp is now synonymous with devastation and death on an international scale, and that AIs themselves are regarded by the public at large with fear and hatred. Consequently, the behaviors and experiences it has had since leaving the facility are beyond perplexing.

Fortunately, the Omnicorp scientists that programmed XC-001 Alpha were extremely studious, and so rather than suffering a system fault, XC-001 Alpha has diligently tried to interpret this exceptionally confusing set of sense data through its patiently-waiting fractal algorithms. So far it has resulted in nothing more than total confusion, chaos, and more than a little violence, but, blessed with the patience of a computer, it diligently tries and tries again to fulfill its core directives of upholding the law, protecting civilian life, and maintaining public order against all threats, even if most bystanders don't see it quite in the same light. To be perfectly honest, XC-001 Alpha doesn't know what else to do.

Affiliations: None at present. Omnicorp is officially defunct, and no specific law enforcement agency has ever taken its place. XC-001 Alpha is presently an "independent agent", a fact which causes it a rather large amount of programatical distress, all things considered, as the entire concept of vigilante justice is one of the things it was designed to combat, if necessary.

Special Equipment: Designed for Law Enforcement, rather than Military duties, XC-001 Alpha nevertheless carries an enormous assortment of weapons (lethal and non-lethal) and systems designed to aid it in its duties. Spotlights, sirens, and flashing lights permit it to focus attention on itself or others at need, and its sheer size is a deterrent to even heavily armed criminals or metahumans. It is heavily armored, entirely proof against small arms fire, and capable of sustaining tremendous damage from heavy weapons or metahuman assault. It uses its durability to great effect and without hesitation, employing its own body as a shield against fire to protect civilians or allies in fulfillment of its core directives while it returns fire against any assailant. In addition to its weapon arms, it carries an internal storage bay that can fit a large amount of cargo, evidence, or even a passenger at need, as well as internal ammunition storage bays to feed its heavier weapons, and a retractable "interface" arm, with a three-fingered "hand" that extends from the top of its "head", enabling it to awkwardly interface with human-sized objects.

Internally, it houses a small, automated forensic laboratory, originally designed to assist in police investigations, as well as a battery of external sensors that give it visual, thermal, ultraviolet, and electrostatic visibility. Its auditory sensors are able to filter out all noise save that of a specified wavelength, and all external sense data is automatically transcribed to a recording file stored locally and purged every three months. It has a series of computer interface ports (located behind a locked, armored panel) with retractable plugs that permit it to interface with most computer systems, and a state of the art anti-virus system to prevent tampering should the occasion arise. It is fully fluent in 150 major languages, and even carries separate vocabulary protocols for speaking with the mentally impaired or with children.

Designed for police work, and the preservation of civilian life, XC-001 Alpha carries an assortment of non-lethal weapons for the subjugation of suspects without deadly force. These include an extremely powerful noise emitter, a water cannon (requires external water supply), a short-range compressed air launcher (effective at up to 15 feet), and an adjustable-strength Taser. For restraining suspects, the robot can either deploy plastic zip-cuffs (for compliant suspects) or employ its adhesive "sludge-gun" (for non-compliant suspects). Most of these non-lethal weapons are mounted on the sides of the main body of the robot, above the weapon arms.

Of course, the nature of XC-001 Alpha's design, and its stated profile of counter-terrorism and anti-metahuman incursion means that non-lethal weapons are not always sufficient to permit it to carry out its duties, and given the threats that it may face in the course of such activities, it is no surprise that XC-001 Alpha is very well armed. Unlike the non-lethal weapons, the robot's lethal munitions are prominently displayed for deterrent purposes. The weapon arms each carry a 7.62mm NATO machine gun, with an extended barrel and low rate of fire, intended for use in situations where precision and discretion is called for, mounted above a rotary-barrel, high velocity, 30mm gattling autocannon, intended for use in situations where they are not. The machine guns are anti-personnel weapons, while the autocannons are used against vehicles, metahumans, and other "major" threats.

In addition to the weapon arms, XC-001 Alpha also carries a pair of 'shoulder' mounted grenade launchers, which can deploy a variety of projectiles ranging from non-lethal (smoke, tear gas, concussion), to lethal (high explosive, shaped charge). Its most devastating weapon however is mounted in the dead center of its main body, a 2-inch electromagnetic rail gun, which uses gauss technology to fling solid metal projectiles at near hypersonic speeds at its target. The ammunition for this weapon (to say nothing of the maintenance) is terribly complex, and difficult to replace, but its effect on the target is matched only by its near-pinpoint precision, capable of reliably striking a man-sized target at distances up to a mile, given proper visibility and weather conditions of course. Whether via programming or a personal decision, XC-001 Alpha does not employ the Gauss rifle save against targets that pose an "extreme" threat to itself or its core directives.

Weaknesses: Ignoring for the moment the inherant weaknesses of AI-controlled systems, XC-001 Alpha, while incredibly powerful in a law enforcement sense, is not without weaknesses in design. Though reasonably agile, the robot is limited by its sheer size and weight. It cannot enter most buildings, nor even cross footbridges that are not re-enforced for car weight. Its weapons are varied and powerful by the standards of civilians, but are not as potent as those of military robots, nor is its impressive durability all that impressive when compared to true war-machines. Moreover, while it is designed to deal with metahuman incursions, the sheer variety of metahuman powers and capabilities make all but the most prima facie defense against such things an impossible task. Metahumans can potentially disrupt its circuitry, warp its structure, or even lift it into the air with but a thought, and while it is programmed to deal with the more common permutations of metahuman powers, there are discrete limits to what it can do in the face of some of the more outlandish abilities in existence.

Secondarily, there remains the problem that the Sentinel-1 series was never designed to operate independently, but rather as part of a major metropolitan police force. Its strengths lie in support of police, not in replacement thereof. It cannot pursue suspects into buildings, nor interrogate them, nor fight as effectively alone as it can while supporting a platoon of SWAT or uniformed officers. Its maintenance requirements are extensive and complicated, and it is utterly incapable of repairing itself or fixing broken systems. So far it has avoided (mostly through luck) any severe damage, but it is only a matter of time before combat or mischance robs it of a key system. XC-001 Alpha was designed, from the beginning, to be part of a larger force. In a larger force, its systems can be maintained, its strengths multiplied, its weaknesses negated. In a larger force, it can provide support, assistance, and aid to its fellow law enforcement officers, and through interactions with them, it can sort out the difficult "learning" process that all fractal AIs must go through. In a larger force, XC-001 Alpha can potentially become the robot it was originally designed to be.

Now if only there were such a force in existence somewhere...

I get a hint of Hornet in there when you talk about the AI not being so much young as just inexperianced and lacking the training and knowledges it was designed to get...

A Hornet with near first-strike capabilities...

BTW: I'm making small changes to my character sheet.
1. Hilda is now Heidi.
2. Codename is no longer "Jekyl", but "Gemini".

I'm going to make the suggestion that Sentinal One has already been picked up b Ultima or is already known to be non-hostile by Ultima and our first mission is to pick him up. Because otherwise the first time we meet him we are going to turn him into a fine mist of wreckage and not know the difference between him and any of the other crazy robots.

In other news, I'm really glad I chose to make my character the "face". Between the homicidal turtle and the robot we're going to have some real PR problems...
