Silver casting? Nice.

I'm assuming it was sand-cast, or did you actually have a mold you worked from?

the cross is silver the prongs are white gold and thats a real amethyst in the center (1/4 karat)

The cross was made using lost wax casting with jewelers (casting) plaster, true sand casting like you would do with machine parts does not work too well with small intricate objects like this.

Once the cross was cast I drilled a hole through the center and mounted the prong setting which had been cast separate. Then I had to take a file and buffing tools to it to clean up all the little burrs and flairs on it and such before setting the stone and buffing again to make it all shiny.

Then after a quick tumble in the magnetic polisher I buffed it again with the tripoli wheels and then tossed it in the ultrasonic cleaner for about 10min and then it was basically done.
