#1 Talkback: Iron Man Movie (Spoiler Warnings)
To keep this thread civil for those who HAVEN'T seen the movie yet, let us make use of the [*spoilers] [/spoilers] tags.
First Off, none spoily review. I'll add a spoilery one later if people want me to.
Mythos and Suits
The movie updates the Iron Man origin mythos, and makes it modern, and does it damn well. From his capture in Afghanistan, to the building of the Mk. I Suit, to blowing the shit out of the camp he was held captive in. The designing of the Mk. II suit went along extremely well, and there was some extremely funny parts in it. We even see a reason who he chooses the Red and Gold Color Scheme for the suit. At anytime in the movie, did I ever look at the Iron Man suit, and say "that's no god damn way....it's all CGI" The ENTIRE movie, the suits looked to have real substance, which is good, because apparently they did make foam rubber/fieberglass suits for some of the Iron Man Scenes.
Iron Monger, (no, this isn't a spoiler, if you even saw a preview, you knew who the bad guy was going to be) suit was extremely well done. You can tell from the basic design it was based off the Mk I suit, just updated with "modern" tech Tony didn't have, and kitted out to make it a destructive weapons system.
Actors
Tony Stark
Robert Downey Jr was born to play Tony Stark. No, I'm absolutly serious in this. At no time in the movie did I look at it and say "That's Downey Jr", it seemed he assimilated the character of Tony Stark near perfectly, from the look, the way he talks, to the way he acts and movies, it absolutly screamed "I am Tony Stark." There's little doubt in my mind the casting for this role was done spot on, and I wouldn't change a single thing Downey did in playing Stark.
Rhodie
Terrence Howard was cast in this role, and this is about the only one I thought could have been done better. I always pictures Rhodie to be more substantial in his look, with more of a Keith David type voice, you know, deeper. If I didn't know the Iron Man Mythos even a little bit, I never would have guessed who he was. Infact, I still had trouble guessing until they said his name. Still, he does a fine job in his role, doesn't bring down the movie, just keeps it from getting a perfect score in my mind.
Obadiah Stane
Jeff Bridges was cast for this role, and again, this is another perfect slotting. Bridges has that sinister edge when he wants to, and fits how I pictures Obadiah in my mind (despite how he looked in the comics).
Pepper Potts
Gwyneth Paltrow played Pepper Potts, and another excellent casting decision. She plays the perfect "executive assistant" to Stark, actually being the closest thing he has to family besides Rhodie. Infact, she seems closer to him in the movie than James does.
Jarvis
......If I do this, i will spoil things. Suffice it to say this is closer to a Ultimate's version of JARVIS than normal Marvel-verse, and works wonderfully.
My recommendation, go see the damn movie. Not bad at all for Marvel Studio's first movie on their own....
Oh, and Stay for after the credits. It's really nessacry.

The only nitpick I have with this movie is the end-fight. It was too frenzied and frantic to really see what was going on when they were fighting on the freeway. That's my only nitpick.
The rest of the movie is a solid, high-pitched SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
RDJ as Stark was perfect, the chemistry with Pepper Potts was sharp and snappy, and the cast did a fantastic job of making their characters believable. The CGi... I honestly couldn't tell during any of the Iron Man scenes which were suits and which were CGI. I'm only assuming that stationary scenes or with the visor open were in the suit. But the transition was so seamless it never 'broke' or stood out.

Fucking awesome, that's all I say.
And I whooped in delight at the post-credit scene.

For those of you that would like to know where some CGI breaks down, and this is the only instance I noticed mind you, when the first suit Tony builds knocks down a pair of metal doors you can tell the doors falling to the ground before the suit are in fact CGI. They didn't get the lighting or the texturing right, I'm not sure which, and the animation was a little mass-less.
Now... I LOVED it. I don't know very much about the comics, but from what I hear from those that do it was satisfactory there. Never mind the comics though, it was simply a good movie no matter what mind set you approach it with. There are a couple of nit picks I could throw out, but many would involve spoilers and frankly they are all pretty minor.
To repeat what others have said: stay through the credits. Seriously.

Now when he can build a S.H.I.E.l.D. helicarrier, then he's truely epic level
Yes, I am aware of Stark's history with SHIELD technology development, before someone comments.

Saw it -- Loved it -- Period.
Got to see it in an almost empty theatre, which was really really really cool.
PS. I sooooo didn't need to stay for the part after the credits. I didn't get it. I had to ask for interpretation. But all's good anyway.

There is a really good chance that I am seriously fucked up. But don't worry....I like me that way.

It was a big giant nerdgasm WITH FLAMETHROWERS! I seriously had to keep myself from going SQUEE at that scene. I want to see it again, with an emptier theater so I really can, and a bunch of friends so we can geek out.
