I read the first three trade paperbacks of Marvel's The Ultimates on saturday and damn they were good. It's what the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. are in Marvel's Ultimate universe and I was blown away. Really good stuff. When the Hulk goes on a rampage there is a triple digit body count. The costumes look good and "real". The Ultimates think Thor is a crazy guy who somehow got his hands on gear and powers. Captain America is intense and patriotic, in a good way without being annoying about it. Some of the hero's lives are fucked up the way the lives of real people are fucked up, but even more so. A really good read. I like it as much as Supreme Power.

*Nods* Although it seems it'll go to shit after the next TPB. Changing writers and artists. Still, we can treasure what we've got.

I rather liked the new Ultimate Spiderman they have out
I haven't read any of the other Ultimate's yet, but the new Ultimate's make Nick Fury look like Sam Jackson, and that's fine in my book

I'm going to pick up the Ultimates because I've heard some good stuff about it. And because they happen to be written by Mark Millar.
But apparently he's going to be replaced soon by one Jeph Loeb. What this entails is yet to be seen...
CC, do you want to write a review in the review thread?

I'll write one up in a day or two. And yes, how can you top a Nick Fury deliberately molded on Badass L. Jackson?

This is a definite must read, they have their own honest to goodness flaws. And Thor drinks beer. How can you not lose?
