A few selected photos from the 2009 Icon festival ("Cities of the Future") - Israel's biggest week long geek-con.
Guests of honour this year included Bill Willingham of Fables, and Patrick J. Gyger of the Swiss Maison D'Ailleurs. Photographing the convention, was, me!
More sets are on my facebook page (about a thousand pictures in total, out of the 2041), and there's an expanded set of the Flickr photos on my Picasa page, here:

Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much: the wheel, New York, wars while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in water having a good time.
But the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man for precisely the same reasons

Most of the people in the shots aren't my friends, and were what was going on. (C'mon, a MAster chief suit? That's awesome :D)LadyTevar wrote:I see a lot of pics of your friends, but very few of what's going on.
Pictures of panels and lecturers are boring things :D.
(Tev, the FB albums have more pictures of the events, these are the pics that I considered to be better on their own merit)

While Doof went abit over the top, he has the right mood. Israeli cons, unlike american ones, are very small and do not have many large activities. In prior years there was a small arena but for multiple reasons it didn't show up this year. The highlight of the con is, for many people, the odd people that show up and the general atmosphere.LadyTevar wrote:I see a lot of pics of your friends, but very few of what's going on.
Though he could have included more shots of the little chamber orchestra and other events.

Mayabird:You see what this place does to us? It's like how Eskimos have their 16 names for snow. We have to precisely define what shafting we're receiving.
"Do we think Israel would be nuts enough to go back into Lebanon with Olmert still in power and calling the shots? They could hook Sharon up to a heart monitor and interpret the blips and bleeps as "yes" and "no" and do better than that, both strategically and emotionally."

No such thing :DAce Pace wrote:While Doof went abit over the top,LadyTevar wrote:I see a lot of pics of your friends, but very few of what's going on.
I have a bunch of closeups, but none of great interest. The conductor dressed up as Palpatine wasn't very photogenic, and I doubt photos of lecturers would mean much to the people here. Not even those of Bill Willingham (who's using my picture of him for his Twitter page :))Though he could have included more shots of the little chamber orchestra and other events.
