#1 Superman vs Emperor Papaltine
Alright, the modern day Superman vs the Emperor has of Return of the Jedi (before being tossed down a shaft by Vader). Rules are has follows, the Emperor may not call on Vader, Mara or any Imperial/Dark Jedi forces. Superman may not call on the Justice League, Green Latern Corp or any other forces.
There are no hostages, there are no human shields. There is only the Master of the Dark Side and the Super human Man of Steel, face to face, one on one , FIGHT!

Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much: the wheel, New York, wars while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in water having a good time.
But the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man for precisely the same reasons

We are assuming both have access to their powers, as is standard for a verus.

This is a face to face one on one conflict. Nomially I would have to say the force wins this battle but if it starts out at close range then Palpy is dead before he gets a chance to do much. Supes hits supersonic speeds and punches a hole through Palpy.
Now if this was a most distanced battle... Palpy all the way. Force grip, turn him away so his eye lasers can't work then force choke the life out of him. Or any other myriad array of nasty deaths the Emperor could no doubt employ.

I am gonna have to go with Paply, seriously, Superman is going to to do his speach on morality "turn yourself in Palpatine"
While Palpatine will break into force powers DURING his villians exposition.
He will have the drop on superman regardless of range

And he can hurt someone who has flown through the SUN how?Comrade Tortoise wrote:I am gonna have to go with Paply, seriously, Superman is going to to do his speach on morality "turn yourself in Palpatine"

And he is faster than someone who after hearing a bullet fired, can fly around the world and pull Lois away from the bullet's path, how?
And he can choke someone with a tk aura that let's him pull the moon, or speed sufficient to kill him before he can make a gesture or even concentrate how?Now if this was a most distanced battle... Superman is ludicrously faster than Palpatine, stronger and more dangerous at range [his Heatvision is hotter than the surface of the suns].
The only Power Palpatine has that might hurt him is uber force lightning or force storms, and Superman can easily reduce him to paste before Palps can get a shot off or even raise his hands.

Your mum, that's why.And he can hurt someone who has flown through the SUN how?
There's also Superman being affected normally by magic... which is essentially what the Force is...
Goodbye, superman... go get fucked.

Considering Palpy was one of the stronger Sith Lords of his day, Apprentice to Darth Plageious I'd say the shit he'd be able to do to Supes if he was able to force grip him would be nasty. Use the Morichro force ability to render supes unconcious or comatose. Neural Storm. Insanity. Drain. Mind Control. Use one of his space/time storms that could rip appart fleets of ships

You know, this automatical assumption that The Force=MAGICK!!! therefore it will work on Supes seriously pisses me off. If that's one of the preconditions of the thread fine but it's not automatically true.
That being said, is this Clark as usually written or Clark making full use of his powers for a change? (No offense, Supes)

The force in the series was proven time and time again to work on both force-sensitives and non-force sensitives, living creatures and innanimate objects. It didn't matter. The belief that it wouldn't work on Supes simply because he's Supes is unfounded and rather absurd.
This is a versus debate where it is assumed that both combatants have full use of their powers and abilities. Given that, yes the Force would be useable and therefore useable against Supes.
If it was anything other then an upclose face to face battle that suddenly sparked off Supes would get his ass beat by the Force. In this instance of a face to face, one-on-one combat at close range Supes wins simply due to the insane speed he could pull off in an instant and hit Paply before he really had a chance to do much.
If this took place at any range, Paply would force-rape Supes with his own genitalia

Fair enough, that was a very bad way to put it. Of course The Force would work. The question is would good it would do. Have fun trying to Force Choke a guy who needs to breathe every other leap year. What annoys the living daylights out of me is the automatic assumption that The Force will be able to exploit Clark's magic weakness.
If the Boy Scout isn't boy scouting anymore and can make full use of his powers then he wins this one in a nanosecond.

Force choke may not work but destroying and eroding his mind and sanity would. As would tearing him apart with various force abilities. He may not need to breathe but when you have force powers capable of ripping apart starships he's going to be hard pressed to stay together if caught by them. He can deflect bullets with ease yes, he can take buttloads of damage and come out without a scratch but I think he'd feel some pain from being racked by the force till his appendages are quite literally pulled off.

Which if the Force doesn't exploit his magic weakness is going to take some doing. The mental attacks might work put pulling him apart via brute force is not gonna happen. The guy took a dive in the sun for a powerup and is back to shoving planets around again.

Do I even *need* to quote Vader on this one?

Hey, I've already admited that in a one-on-one head to head close range battle Supes has it hands down. But I'm just saying that if Palpy gets the chance to use his force abilities Supes is in for a world of hurt.

And all I'm saying is that if the Force doesn't exploit Clark's magic weakness a lot of them are going to do diddly squat. For example, if they have to rely on brute force, TK and Force Lightning aren't going to faze the Boy Scout much. Besides, with the speed he's back up to, 'close range' means a light-second or less.

Palpatine.
SUPERMAN SPEEDBLITZES! Yet, Palps will know this is coming beforehand, and indeed, know all of the modifications Supes will make as he notices this precog.
HEAT VISION! We've seen Jedi fight in lava flows without issue until one lost his concentration due to limb removal.
And so on. Palpatine hits Supes with a Force Storm and takes the Win.

Jedi precog appears to be rather limited in temporal range when making precise predictions ('always in motion is the future'). Can Palpy react fast enough to compensate for Supes' speed?
I'd dispute the lava flow thing. If I had anything to quantify Clark's heat vison by.
A force storm does what, exactly, to someone engulfed by it?
(This is an honest question, I know of force storms only by reference)

Palpy was the only one that I'm aware of who could actually make the force storms and he could make them large enough to take out a fleet of starships. They're basically contained areas of warped space/time from what I know of.
