Okay, we've got a versus match here:

In a no holds barred, last-man-standing match:

Drizzt Do'Urden (Forgotten Realms)
Minsc & Boo (Forgotten Realms)
Tanis Half-Elven (Dragonlance)
Aragorn (LotR)
Legolas (LotR)
Martin (Rift War)
Valygar Corthala (Forgotten Realms)

Sadly even though Tanis is my favorite ranger, I'll have to say that in all actuallity he'd probably get his ass kicked. This isn't to say that he's not a great ranger or a great character, but in comparison to some of these others he just isn't up to the challenge I think.

I'd say Drizzt dies with more swiftness. Two magical scimitars are kind of inferior to a raving mad lunatic with a hamster and a sentient sword (or at least Minsc was always given Lilarcor when I played)

(In game terms, I dont think he ever really got over 6th level)

I think we need to hammer out when some of thse characters are fighting. Is it Minsc and Boo as of the beginning of BG2 or the end? Throne of Bhaal?

I'd say the beginning of Throne of Bhaal, where he'd have been loosely 17-20 in level.

Ouch. No, I don't think Tanis is going to come out ahead.
I don't recall much about Martin but from the DnD guys my money is on Minsc. Strider and Legolas are no slouches but high level DnD characters are just insane.
Regardless who wins I demand that Lilarcor gets destroyed in the process. Yes, I hate the bloody sword that much.
There's a reason I usually had Minsc dual-wield until you got the Silver Sword.

Well, I was thinking that Lilarcor breaks as it pierces Drizzt's Emo heart...

Minsc, with no other weapon, gains Icingdeath and Twinkle

No good. No points in scimatar/wakizashi/ninja-to. He needs a bastard, long, or two-handed sword (or a mace).

Tanis got up to low double digit levels. Like Minsc, it depends on what point of his career you pick. He's also a straight fighter, unless my memory is flawed. Riverwind was their ranger.

Minsc is bad ass, but he's also dumb. Unless he's wearing heavy armour (most unranger like) I'd say Drizzt does the slice and dice on him. In any case, Minsc isn't going to win. Either Martin or Legolas will take him down with lethal bow action.

I don't remember Valygar Corthala so no comment.

Tanis was a dualclass fighter ranger. Riverwind might be classed as a ranger but he never seemed that ranger-like to me.

But a quick rundown of stats for tanis, and yes it did depend on when you're taking him from but he was never an insanely high level.
Str16, int12, dex 16, wis13,con12, char15

If you're talking pre-WotL (preludes, meeting sextents, etc) he was lower level. It wasn't until your later novels and stories where he was a lot less involved(Post WotL, dragons of the summer flame and past) that he might be high enough to reach 10 or 11. He was good with a bow and good with a sword but he was never exceptional... his main advantage was his mental prowess not physical.

Stealth-orientated Kara-Tur Ranger with a Katana. He didn't have the ability to cast Ranger-spells, but he was extremely good at slicing and dicing people.

well I checked. According to the latest books for DL Tanis as of 391AC was lvl 6fighter/ranger and riverwind was lvl 6 barbarian/ranger

*laughs* Someone's screwed up on dates...

391 AC is 8 years after Tanis died...

Tanis Half-elven died in 383 AC defending Steel Brightblade at the High Clerist's Tower. This was durning the first part of the War of Chaos

but according to the books I glanced through they said 391AC.

But I'd go with those stats during the height of his career, post war of the lance prior to the war of chaos where his human heritage caught up with him and started aging him.

Just to add to what Dak said, Valygar was classed as a Stalker, very good at sneak-attacks and scouting ahead, using Hide in Shadows. He was available for the Athkatla Planar Sphere quest, probably my favorite quest BG II. As for his abilities in this debate, I really couldn't say how he'd fare, but Stalkers such as himself seem to be the least powerful of the ranger classes.
