#1 Favorite Pre-Infinite Crisis Mini-Series

Post by JME2 »

As readers are aware, DC is currently publishing four mini-series that spin out of Countdown to Infinite Crisis and serve as the road to the upcoming Crisis. Of the four series, which one is your favorite?

Interesting, as I never knew of this before...

Can you give a brief synopsis of the overall storyline for them JME2? I may be interested in reading them...

No problem; From Wikipedia:

Day of Vengeance
Jean Loring, ex-wife of Ray Palmer (The Atom) and murderer of Sue Dibny in 2004's mini-series Identity Crisis, is transformed into a new version of the villainous Eclipso by mysterious forces. Loring escapes from her Arkham Asylum cell to unknown whereabouts. Meanwhile, the Spectre, the vengeful right hand of God, is now without a host since the revival of Hal Jordan. The Spectre has declared war on magic and is seeking out all the magical beings in the universe. With all their lives in danger, the Shadowpact, a group of heroic mystics including Ragman, Enchantress, Blue Devil, Nightmaster, Detective Chimp, and Nightshade plan a daring frontal assault against the Spectre. While the mystics plan this attack, the ancient wizard Shazam recruits his superhero Captain Marvel in a bid against the Spectre.

While Captain Marvel fights an epic duel of magic versus spirit against the Spectre, Enchantress, Blue Devil, Ragman and Nightmaster keep Eclipso busy, hoping to give Captain Marvel the few moments he needs to defeat the Spectre. Meanwhile, Detective Chimp and Nightshade have sought out a hero whose power can stop the God-like Spectre before he destroys all magic in the DC Universe.

The OMAC Project
The OMAC Project picks up where Identity Crisis left off. Blue Beetle is dead, Booster Gold is in the hospital and the Check Mate organization, lead by Maxwell Lord, continues its mysterious operations against DC's superheroes. Booster Gold wakes up and after learning of Ted Kord's disappearance he decides to investigate with the help of Wonder Woman. This comic also introduces the "OMACs", which are some type of robotic superhero killers. They have been spotted all over the world and have managed to kill several superheroes. Batman and Wonder Woman investigate the OMACs while Booster, after meeting Guy Gardner in space, decides that he would rather investigate Ted Kord's disappearance with other former member of the Justice League International. Interweaved through this plot are scenes detailing the power struggle within the Check Mate organization itself. Check Mate is led by the White Queen, White King, Black Queen and Black King; each of whom have knights (of the corresponding color). Through his machinations Maxwell Lord becomes the only leader of the organization, despite double-crossing by one of his own knights.

The Raan-Thanagar War
During the events of the mini-series Adam Strange: Planet Heist, cop Adam Strange fought a rogue group of the hawk-winged people of Thanagar. During the battle, the leader of the group transported Strange's adopted homeworld of Rann into the Thanagarian system with hopes of creating a dictatorship. However, Rann's new location caused the orbit of Thanagar to change and the planet crashed into the system's sun. The planet Rann now serves as a haven for the people of the now destroyed Thanagar. But tensions are rising and Strange knows war will soon erupt. Strange goes to Earth to recruit the help of Thanagarians Hawkman and Hawkgirl to prevent a war that will plunge the whole galaxy into chaos. Meanwhile, Green Lanterns Kilowog and Kyle Rayner are also summoned to Rann. When Strange and the Hawks arrive on Rann, they are shocked to see that the war has already begun.

Villains United
For months now, ex-U.S. President Lex Luthor has been using his resources to assemble an army against the superheroes. Luthor's team now has over two hundred members with a six-member core team consisting of Luthor, Talia Al Ghul, Doctor Psycho, Deathstroke, Black Adam, and the Calculator. But not all the villains offered a chance to join this army are thrilled with this idea. Batman villain Catman has joined a team of five supported by the mysterious Mockingbird including Cheshire, Deadshot, Scandal, Ragdoll and Parademon to oppose this new Society of Supervillains. The comic follows the six as they fight against overwhelming odds to defeat the other villains.

No longer an issue; Again from Wikipedia:

In Batman: Death and the Maidens, it was revealed that Ra's al Ghul had a love child born during his travels in Russia in the 18th Century, called Nyssa. Wanting revenge on her father for abandoning her when her entire family was killed and she was tortured in a concentration camp in the Holocaust, she hatched plans using her considerable amounts of wealth and resources to kill Ra's by befriending, kidnapping, and brainwashing Talia, using her to kill Ra's, while Nyssa would destroy all hope and optimism in the world by assassinating Superman with kryptonite bullets she stole from the Batcave.

While Batman was successful in preventing the assassination of Superman, he was unable to stop Ra's from being killed by Nyssa. This in turn was part of a greater plan by Ra's to ensure that his daughters, both initially dissatisfied with his plans, would realize that he was right about the world and what needed to be done to it according to his ideas, and would come to accept their destinies as his heirs. Realizing and accepting this, both Nyssa and Talia became and are now the heads of the League of Assassins with Talia disavowing all her love for Bruce Wayne and both sisters declaring Batman to be their enemy.

Not to be offensive, but the OMACs kinda sound like Sentials to me...
