That is one of the leading theories on the board, yes. There is also the mysterious death of Tarq's wife, formerly wife of a Draketooth. I doubt Familicide would have hit her, unless it struck backwards through her Draketooth child.

The question is the time-frame between the casting and these deaths. Someone on SDnet counted roughly 3wks between then and now. Wouldn't the scarabs have eaten them and the food by now?

Well, since this thread's always updating I finally got around to catching up and... damn... lots of dead people.

I had caught up to Roy dueling with Thog last time before life got frenetic once more, so it was a goodly evening of reading.

Um. Speaking of familicide. I'm not up to date on my D&D genetics, but is there any way they were family of that Black Dragon that V offed?

One of the ways sorcerers get their inborn magic is through inhuman blood. Like that of a Fey, Outsider... or Dragon. If they were related, it would have been a very distant relation but possibly enough.

As I said, the leading theory is that DrakeTooth was related to the Black Dragon. Some are even going back to that page and trying to see if one of the tiny tiny pictures has anyone with the Draketooth tattoo.

However, as I have mentioned, *someone* murdered Tarq's wife, who knew all about the Draketooth. While some thought it could be a Draketooth protecting their secret, now some are wondering if she was killed the same time as the rest of the Draketooth. Familicide did state it would go to family of family, which as the mother of a Draketooth she would count as....

Nope, didn't see any. Though that doesn't mean that it isn't true.

Of course, if it's the leading theory, then the Giant might well go and change it to something else.

A lot of people pick one pronoun to refer to Varsuvius and stick with it, I prefer female, but her gender is still very much undetermined. This happens in character too. One of the fiends, for example, consistently refers to V as female, while the other two are more ambiguous about it. Zykon's crew assumed V was female, except Zykon himself who assumed nothing. Several other characters have assumed Varsuvius to be male and treated her accordingly.

With respect to the Familicide, I saw that coming, and I'm not surprised. V really shouldn't be acting so horrified. What she did was mass murder and utterly monstrous, that it killed humans doesn't make it any worse. But of course, this is a story running on D&D morality. What was that exchange early in the comic?

Roy: "Umm... it's scales weren't all shiny?"
Miko: "Ah, then its destruction was just and necessary."

I guess it's only horrifying when the murdered are humanoids.

Anyway, Familicide is an awesome spell and it's too bad I'm probably never going to get to use it. ;.;

It's horrifying to V because of unintended consequences. He knew he was killing a large number of black dragons. Dragons. A group of sapients V is not gonna look upon to well. They're a menace and competition to him (look at it from where he stands, it ain't right but it is gonna tell us about his emotional state). I'm sure he knew some halfers were gonna get it in the neck, but hey, they were half black dragon, what are the odds that they're any kind of decent people? Sure, he's a mass murderer and going to hell but black dragons are all bad, he's surely only protected the world from additional pain and suffering...

In short, V don't see dragons as people. He sees them as talking, flying, overly armored, magically powered killing machines who like to eat people and will sometimes mock them first.

Only he's wrong.

Your relations and ancestors don't determine your alignment. Sapient beings that V sees has people have suffered, have died and they're never coming back. Go back and look at 641, there was a dead child in that pile, human children look alot like elf children don't they? He killed those kids and now he knows it. It's not a maybe. It's not a detach fact floating around. It's in his face, undeniable. An entire family of people are dead. And He Did It. Children, just like his own in so many ways are dead. And He Did It. It's the difference between hearing you dropped a bomb on a city and walking through the corpse choked ruins of a school you destroyed. Of course he should be horrified, he has finally come face to face with the consequences of his actions!

This isn't a vague fact or idea anymore, it's a dead, rotting in your face reality. Going through his head has to be any number of things, from I didn't know it would kill people! To oh my God, I killed people just like my friends! This could have ended up killing Roy! Elan! Haley! Women and Children are dead and I did it... AND I LAUGHED WHEN I PULLED IT OFF!

That alone would drive stronger men mad.

But that's not all. There's one additional twist of the knife.

The Gate is unguarded. There's at least 2 groups of bad guys inbound. One of which they can't take. V couldn't beat Xykon even when he was souped up and turbo charged. Now? No chance. The world could end in the next week... Because He Cast One Spell. His unchecked desires to protect his family and punish his enemies could have doomed the world. He has surrendered his family, destroyed his self respect, wrecked friendships, spat on everything he believed to save the world. Only to be the one who doomed it. All this time, they were worried about a Goblin and his god destroying the world and it all it took was one elf at sufficient ego.

That look of gut clenching, bowel watering, robe soaking horror on his face? It's really to mild an expression for what he should be feeling.

I always forget I have a policy against posting whilst sleep deprived for a reason.

Anyway, I was trying (and failing) to pass judgement on Varsuvius in a sarcastic fashion. You know, "Oh don't look so surprised, you did this, this is what you wanted it wasn't it? Everyone related to that dragon dead and gone, and here they are, the giant pile of corpses exactly like you wished for!" Basically twisting the dagger in the gut, because I'm a bit of a meanie sometimes. >.>

Though I expect similar thoughts will be going through the Elf's head presently.

Let's not soft sell this. V was super charged at the time and was smacking around that dragon around like V was wearing a wife beater and the dragon was a red headed stepchild. There was no fear there. Nor was the dragon's personhood in any doubt. V wasn't casting that spell on some faceless, dangerous enemy. V was casting that spell on a beaten enemy that had dared to humiliate him and threaten what V loved. V cast familicide out of pure spite.

The dragon went after his/her family and V payed her back ten times in spades. That black dragons are generally evil is the reason mouth breathing retards think what V did is okay and why V hasn't been wracked with guilt. The results of his cruel and reckless mass murder are now staring him/her in the face and now we'll see how V deals with it.
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

Ouch. So much for the possibility that the crazy theory was untrue. But something on the caliber of "Familicide" was bound to come back to haunt Vaarsuvius, and not just because of the fact that he's presumably going to come under the control of the fiends at some point.

BTW: now we have a possibility as to why Girard might not like paladins very much, apart from him being Chaotic. Black dragons being in his family tree and all.

This should be interesting.

I liked howhe pretty much beat the Order in single combat with pretty much contemputous ease there.
