Okay, that was awesome.
Watching the Jem'hadar go over the usual Next Gen crate fort never gets old.

This totally didn't suck. And the space battle sequences looked a hell of a lot better than what I remember from TV. Has DS9 been redone in HD?

20 years ago, the Federation lost its innocence and idealism.
But it did gain The Sisko. Fair trade.

You and I watched different Star Trek Deep Space Nines then, if that's what you think.

I won't say the idealism ever went out, but DS9 was definitely the grittiest take on the series since TOS. Section 13, biowarfare, political assassinations that benefit the good guys, etc. TNG probably would've had a magic ending for the Dominion War (involving tachyons, static warp shells, and Wesley) without ever compromising their ethics the way Sisko did with the assassination.

DS9 was about real people trying to make the best decisions possible in an idealistic world under threat from unfathomable power. Sometimes those people made morally questionable decisions. But I do not define the existence of people who are not omniscient as the death of idealism, moralizingly satisfying though it is to crow about

That's actually what made DS9 the best of the new Treks, in my opinion. TNG and Voyager typically had the most morally palpable decision also turn out to be the correct one by magic writer fiat. That's why I gave up on TNG after a couple of seasons and Voyager after a half dozen episodes.
Of course ultimately Babylon 5 was the better 'space station in a big galaxy going nuts' series. Sheridan>Sisko.

I go back and forth on the whole Babylon 5/DS9 fight. I loved both series, but probably have to come out on the DS9 side, if only because DS9 was very strong for seven full seasons while Babylon 5 was only so for three. The writing on DS9 was, I felt, better on a line by line basis (there were some real clunkers all through Babylon 5), even if the overall themes and story of Babylon were stronger. It's a close one for me of course, as I love Babylon, I really do. But for me, it's all about the Sisko.

There is only one true way to settle DS9 vs. B5. Have the two crews face each other.... in
baseball.

Nonsense!
Captain Gay Chicken is the only true contest that can resolve this.
