So I'm posting this from work because I have little other choice.

My computer, which is going on eight years old at this point, has finally failed in a way that I don't think I can recover. I suspect that the hard drive is the culprit, as the computer boots into a bluescreen that claims there is a boot drive problem. I tried re-installing the OS only to be told the computer had no hard drive. Jiggling cables and tightening things convinced the computer that there was a hard drive, but that unidentified errors prevented it from re-installing the operating system.

I didn't have a lot of time to play around with it last night, and should have more now, but at the moment I have no faith that I'm going to get the thing to work again, nor do I have much of a chance of getting a replacement computer now or in the future. As a result, I'm afraid I will not be around much if at all for the foreseeable future.

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that Havoc. I had much the same problem. If you do see this, I solved the problem by replacing the hard drive, which is cheaper then getting a whole new computer. Hope you can tackle this problem man. Scream real loud if you need anything alright?

I don't have a spare hard drive, nor am I likely to be able to acquire one in the near future. And even if I did, that was the last of three hard drives I had, which means I've lost basically everything from the last eight years or so. Which I knew was a risk, but had no means of doing much of anything about.

I'll see you all when I see you.

Cameron has an old computer gathering dust that he says you can have Havoc. And by says you can have it I mean he won't take no for an answer.

Posting this from a friends house. I managed to scavenge an old hard drive out of a dead box and got an older windows to install on it, which proves a number of theories. I'm going to try and see if I can get the machine to run at all and then see about file recovery.

One way or another. Cameron's spare system is apparently being, quote, 'finicky,' but the same cannot be said for the laptop that's been sitting in my closet for the past year. Just say the word (and by word, I mean shipping address) if your current repairs don't work out, Havoc. It's not in use anyway, so I'll take it to work tomorrow and throw a fresh install of Windows on it just in case.

Well the good news is I did get the machine to run off the new hard drive, which means I am back online.

The bad news is that I've had absolutely no success in trying to recover anything off the old hard drive, not with every file recovery system I can find to use, no matter how advanced. The error messages they give me are of no help, save that the programs seem to be unable to determine what the file system of the hard drive is, and I have no idea where to go from here.
