Comrade Tortoise wrote:"We will have to ask Legacies that. He was the one he telepathically threatened and focused his attacks on." he sighed and looked at the clock

"If it's all the same to you guys, the sun will be coming up in a few minutes, I can already see the sky becoming lighter. Can we take this outside?" he gestured to the multitude of patches of dried blood which would soon become actual scabs that covered his body

"That spike-skin did a number on me before I put him down. I need to get into the sunlight to heal these, they are starting to itch"
"I'm sorry I missed all the fun. If I had been there I might have done more, like, I dunno, annoyed the enemy with my ascerbic wit."

"Funny," said Blackheart as he walked in on the tail end of the conversation. "A teleporter is always useful to have around."

Even the squirrels were watching him. They could not travel as freely as the birds could of course, but they watched him nonetheless. It was up to the birds to deliver constant messages to Avatar detailing Niner's movements.

It wasnt that they were sapient, or that they could 'verbally' communicate to Avatar where he went. But the good thing about his instruction was that it was a gentle compulsion. SOmething which did not interfere with their aility to survive and function, gather food. But one which, once they saw the creature, they felt themselves drawn to Avatar's location. When they delivered the information, Avatar relieved them of the compulsion until it was triggered again.

Niner's randpm teleporting would reach the lycanthrope in due time. Whether he would be able to pin down an exact location or not was another story altogether.

Niner finally finished his rounds and ported through the open grate he had exited from. He used TK to shut the grate and then he relaxed. He took out a piece of bread and started eating.

"Well, it seems that irrate telepath has a general location. Though, he teleports from place to place and I dont know his radius."

Alex gave the general crossroads of where his first little winged spy found the telepath

And then several more birds of different species perched at the window and began relaying their information

"and now it seems like he is teleporting at random to avoid being tracked. But never more than 500 meters distance per teleport."

Tobin awoke slowly, with a large yawn and strech, lucky there were no classes today. He dragged himself out of bed, almost tripping over his boots cursing and feeling a bit sore and made a breakfast of dry cereal and poweraide. He scracthed his cheek, gonna have to shave later.

Plopping down chewing the dry Chex cereal he turned on the T.V. Let's see what's on the news today...

"Yeah, that's why I get six figures, heath benefits, and all the perks. That and putting my ass on the line. It does mean I don't have to worry about the day job or worrying about if I'm going to be covered if say Cobalt punches me through a statue."

"Heh, the good thing about being a biologist is that they dont care who or what is doing research so long as it gets done. I am, in a sense "out" at work" he chuckled. It was similar to being a homosexual, but also so radically different.

He imagined for a moment sitting down in the living room with his parents

"Mom, dad, there is something I need to get off my chest. It has been bothering me for a very long time. I am, in a way, different"

His parents would look at each other, concerned, then look at him, somewhat fearful

"Mom, dad... I am a lycanthrope"

His mother would start to cry and would ask how he could do this to her. She wants grandkids, and lycanthropes couldnt have them.

He chuckled.

"Let me cut to the chase. Both of you could be very useful and things are heating up. If you're the kind of men I think you are, you're going to step up to the challenge. You can do it better if you're not trying to squeeze a straight job into your life and if you have access to the resources the Teams can give you. Are you in?"

Alex thought for a second. he loved science. WIth all his heart he loved studying the natural world and he didnt want to give it up. On the other hand, he knew, literally, what he was put on earth to do. He was put on earth because there were things that the universe itself knew were wrong. Whether there was a transcendental God, or whether the universe was God, he didnt know. He leaned toward the later. But he was, in his mind, put on earth to counteract those things. The forces of darkness which perverted and twisted the world. The things that caused holocausts and bataan death marches.

He was given a great gift, and a duty, which manifested itself the moment he defended that Alligator's nest those years ago. He had no moral choice. But perhaps... perhaps he could still do what he loved as well

"I am in. WIth one condition. I knwo this will seem odd, but almost no work is being done on the biology of Meta-Humans. The scientific community doesnt touch it outside of trying to induce the various forms of metahuman phenomenon. I know you may be unable to directly assist in this, but I would like the chance to study metahumans on a less invasive and more academic basis during what little spare time I have." he sighed "Besides, it may help out everyone in the long run."

"Expense acounts, six figures, living allowance, a very generous health plan, and a very good pension plan. Look to do this right you have fuck over the rest of your life. Your job, your love life, everything else comes second. It's all going to get messed up. If you're getting paid to do it, that's one less thing you have to worry about."

He paused. "Then there is the other bit. You wear the mask and you're going to get you ass kicked badly at some point. It's happened to me three times. It's going to happen to you. The best possible facilities medical facilities are available here. Treating metas isn't always easy. It's a big plus. You'll also be covered for anything, which isn't necessarily the case otherwise."

"Well, those are all nice-sounding things, and truth be told I could use the money. But here's the thing, I have a sister, and she's missing. Been missing for awhile now. And she's a meta like me. She means more to mean than anything. Compared to her, six figure expense accounts and penthouse suites aren't worth a dime."

"Here's the deal: you help me find her, and I help you do whatever you need to do. After that, well, we'll renegotiate."

"There's a lot of work done on the biology of metahumans. Countless amounts of it. Billions of black dollars each year in the US alone. It's just all classified. Of course, you're security clearance will signifigantly improve if you join."

He turned to Spectre. "As for your missing sister, finding missing metas is part of our mandate. You have my word that it will be a high priority."

he didnt hesitate

"I am in. Besides, it isnt as if I have a love life. I couldnt reproduce if I tried. At least not with a human. As far as I can tell, once a lycanthrope undergoes his first change, no reproduction...." the trailed off. He could go into the selective advantages non-manifested lycanthropes had. SUch as better immune systems. But that would be another talk for another day

Tobin saw the news report... Fuck he had even voted for the guy. This sucked...

He saw the number Blackheart gave him sitting on the table. Damn he shouldn't leave a number just sitting out, it could cause problems if someone saw it. Should he call? He could help. He should help. But, if he signed up God alone knew what they would do to him, or with him.

He couldn't explain his powers. It didn't make sense, people in their early 20s should not express superhuman powers just cause they get in a car wreck! No one in his right mind would buy that, there wasn't even any raditation involved! Plus if he was on public record who would protect his Mom? She die if she knew what he was doing.

Still... He could just... Talk to the guy, he seemed cool. They could maybe make a deal. It didn't feel right sneaking around like this. He was as patroitic as the next guy... And he could help. Alright then.

He would call from a payphone and met him as Blast. Maybe there could be a deal.

Blast was standing in the street, a good 6 blocks away from his apartment, he wore gloves to ensure no prints. He cleared his throat.

"This is Blast. From the building last night. Can we met and talk? One on one, please." He asked quietly.

Blast named a building he knew that he could both get to the top of and see all around, it would keep most things from sneaking up on him. Asking Blackheart to met him there in an hour he hung up the phone. Now he had to catch a cab and change. There had to be an easier way to do this stuff...

Flying made made getting around traffic easier. Blackheart's upped metabolism was getting really demanding in the way of food. He wolfed down a double cheese burger and turkey sub with honey mustard and mayo. He changed into his suit, which was plain black armoured. He had about ten minutes. No problem. He took to the air, zipped around a few buildings, down a main avenue, and finally descended to the roof.

"Yo. Want a Coke?" Blast said, sitting next to the door that led up to the roof. Fucking stairs. Blackheart was in a for-real uniform not the cobbled togather stuff Blast was wearing. He felt a stir of envy and shoved it down, this wasn't the time to get pissy over who had better gear. He held up a bottle of Coke Cola. There had been a vending machine on the bottom floor and he had known he would need a drink.

Plus people tend not to start shooting at people who just bought them a soda, or so Blast thought.
