The Glitch IV - Inversion (Ch. 1)

Slowly, Leah looked down to Yuffie, breathing, but still unconscious, impossibly alive, and possibly Nulled.

"What are you going to do, Matt...." she asked softly, wishing that anyone but her was here at this moment.

[Charon]

Matthew looked back at Leah, "Nothing. Why would I do something?" He looked back at Yuffie. "She could die on her own, she could not be nulled." Matthew's voice choked for a brief moment. "If she is... I'll take care of it." It was a lie. If she fell, he would to. He knew it.

[LadyTevar]

Leah knew it was a lie too. And knew she couldn't kill Yuffie either, even if nulled. "Computer... locate Auron. Inform him he's needed in Sickbay." She couldn't... but there was someone here that was as close to Yuffie as Matt, and far more clearheaded and practical.

"I'm sorry, Matt....." Leah said sadly, meaning every word of it.

[Charon]

Matthew looked up. "Computer, belay that request." He looked back at Leah, and now she noticed the laser scalpel he had in one of his hands.

"We don't need Auron yet. She could be fine. Please... he'll kill her."

[Agent Fisher]

The security team arrived at the staterooms. He told them there was still someone asleep here, and they should post a guard.

[LadyTevar]

Leah's eyes dropped to the scapel in Matt's hand. "Or... he'll tell us she's untouched..." she hedged, wondering how far Matt would go. "... like Darek... touched but able to break free?"

Of course, Auron hadn't believed Darek could do that, had he. Darek had proved it with his actions, but still. "I'm the last person to talk about giving up on someone you love, aren't I."

[Charon]

Matthew shook his head. "You know as well as I do that he doesn't believe that. No one but those of us who saw it would believe it." Matthew looked over at Leah as she said that she understood about giving up on someone you love.

"And that's why you can't call Auron. There's still a chance that she's ok."

[Dark Silver]

From Yuffie's biobed, a groan came out. It was soft at first, then louder. Suddenly, Yuffie sat straight up, her eyes wide in fear and pain. She looked around without seeing, hearing Leah and Matthew talk, her voice echoing in the sickbay, her screams loud enough to draw not a few looks from attendants, despite the incoming wounded as the Bit Errors rampaged outside.

"No no no nonononoNoNoNONONOOOO!! Kill me! someone, quick, I can feel them in me! Kill me! Quickly!" tears streamed down her face, she began to thrash on the biobed, seeming to reach for something, anything, "Make them stop make them stop! Kill ME!!!"

The security forces continued attacking the Errors which appeared, though individually weak, in a horde such as this, they were deadly opponents. And though the one who commanded them, the Null which infested Crusher, was gone, they had a link. For every one destroyed by searing energy, another five sprung up from the darkness.

They crawled along walls and ceilings, swinging from torn up deck playing and off the heads of thier own number.

Slowly, more were creeping closer to Engineering. The heart of the ship would be theres...

The ship rocked as energy blasts impacted upon it's shields. Return fire poured out of it's own cannon emplacements and phaser strips, yet the other ship danced away idly, those shots which did hit barely shaking it's interior.

[Charon]

Matthew got to his feet and wrapped his arms around Yuffie. "Don't worry. I'm here. No one is gonna hurt you. Shhhh, it's ok. Please. You'll be fine."

Then it registered in Matthew's mind what Yuffie was saying. Oh God no... please God no...

"Come on Yuffie. You can fight this. I know you can. You're the strongest person I know. Please fight this. Come on, you can make it."

Albert had finally obtained pants and a shirt, when the ship shook from a hit. Shit. He thought. And to think I won the fight to lose the war. He picked up the unconscious but Null-free Crusher.. He could feel the soul there, weakened by the possession but clean.. And started to run out of the stateroom and towards Medbay. "I just hope like hell I can still remember how you work a Runabout.." He grunted as he ran for it.

"Leah! Justin! Matt! We've gotta go!" He yelled as he finally reached the door, the ship still losing ground to the attacker and the invaders. "I told you lot to get to a Runabout!" Yelled the human.

[Dark Silver]

Yuffie was in tears, she was crying, the pain to great, she felt herself starting to slip away. "Matthew...no...please..kill me, kill me...I can't stop it...to strong...I..hunger....please..." Yuffie's face began to descend on Matthew's neck, her arms begining to tighten around him, to pull his head to the side...

"so hungry...." she whispered through the tears..

Defensive forcefields sparng to life around Engineering, and the Null threw themselves against it. Energy crackled and sparked, as the engineers attempted to shut down the core before the Null broke through.

The ship rocked again as weapons fire lanced against the shields.

Finally, the order was given, Picard's voice echo'ing through the ship, "All hands, abandon ship, all hands abandon ship"

[Charon]

Matthew pushed away from Yuffie, looking at her as everything around them began to fall apart. He lifted the PADD he'd brought so she could see it. "That's what I look like Yuffie." Matthew pressed the PADD against her chest as she fought the hungry look that was in her eyes. "I love you."

Too late Matthew thought he saw the hungry look break. His thumb flipped a switch and the laser scalpel that he'd had made shot through the PADD, carving neatly through clothing and flesh and muscle and bone, clean through Yuffie's heart and out through the back. Yuffie blinked a few times and the hungry look returned. She was crying though. "Please Matt. Kill me... before I become something terrible."

Screaming out Matthew brought the blade out and cut through Yuffie's neck, severing the head. It rolled down onto her lap as her body fell backwards. Matthew stood there, unblinking. His hand dropped the scalpel, the blade disappearing as it clattered to the ground. Then, inching forward his hand closed Yuffie's eyes. Matthew was silent as he then reached up and slipped the bandana that had been around Yuffie's head off and grasped it tightly.

"Yuffie..."

And then everything collapsed. Matthew simply fell to the ground, unwilling to move, simply staring out blankly at space.

With a roar Magneto cut loose, metal deck platings, hall panels, metal odds and ends, tools, personal items, all of them were weapons at the command of the master of magnetism. He ceased to be a human figure and attacked becoming instead the leading edge of a storm barely contained in a corridor. Shadow blew apart like soap bubbles against a hard wind, behind him stunned security men followed. Magneto turned on them snarling.

"You heard the French men, go and run! Fly you fools! I can survive if the ship should fail you cannot, GO!" He bellowed has a stream of metal swirled around him hissing through the air.

This isn't going to do any good!

I DON'T CARE! I AM, I WILL BE MAGNETO! I will not retreat in the face of these vermin, Magneto triumphs or dies trying to his last breath!

[Comrade Tortoise]

Justin out his hand on Matt's shoulder

"Come on man, we have to get to the escape pod."

When he didnt move Justin let out a sigh

"Leah, can you help me carry him? He is too heavy to lift on my own"

When the red alert sounded the beach dissolved and fell away Ted fell onto the hard holo-deck floor with a dull thud and Rory landed on top of him. He rubbed the back of his head as he pulled himself to his feet helping Rory to stand as well.

“Computerâ€

"Null got inside the Ship, Dr. Crusher was compromised. Yuffie is Dead and Matt is Cataonic. We have to get to the escape pods now"

"well... crap" was all Ted could say as he stood there still somewhat stunned by the harsh wake up call "ok how the hell do we get to an escape pod?" he asked helping to support Matthew.

[Agent Fisher]

Jack ran towards the escape pods. He ran by a dead security man. He stopped and rushed back. He took the dead man's phaser and continued running. He reached the pod and hopped in with some crewman he didnt know.

"...Let me." Albert said. None of them would really recignize him. Matthew knew him, but he was... Not in a good state. Leah might, but this was a stressful situation. With one arm, the human that had been a giant hefted Matthew. It was incredible; he was stronger, faster, he felt like a new man.

...Was this how the Dark Rider's felt?

No time for that. "We'll get a Runabout. If this sceptre doesn't work, it should have the range to get us to somewhere safer." He announced. "Now follow me."

Rory looked at everyone, attempting to take everything in. She had never gotten her hopes up that they were going home and this just proved she was right. She saw Leah, Justin, Matt......And, she blinked, Albert? She looked hard at him, not sure but the way he was talking, she had a feeling. Her eyes fell to the biobed, she wavered and grabbed Ted arm and covered her mouth looking away. "You never get used to that.." She mumbled shakily. Then Albert? gave them the direction to follow him, she was gald to get out of the room. "What about the biterrors? I saw them in the hall ways... Don't we need weapons?"

Blood again. Leah's heart broke for Matt as he did what he had to do, and collapsed in the floor. She wouldn't have had the strength, not at all. "Goddess bless this child..." she whispered, leaning against the wall as everything went crazy around her.

"Come on man, we have to get to the escape pod."When he didnt move Justin let out a sigh
"Leah, can you help me carry him? He is too heavy to lift on my own"

Leah blinked out of her own personal horror, starting to step forward when Rory and Ted burst in.

"Null got inside the Ship, Dr. Crusher was compromised. Yuffie is Dead and Matt is Cataonic. We have to get to the escape pods now"

Escape pods... yes. "Where is the goblin girl? We can't leave without her..."

It was the voice that told her who it was... a voice Leah'd spoken to countless late nights over vox. "Albert...? What happened? Where's Thog?" Then she saw him pick up Matt effortlessly. "....oh.... still there..."

Wow. Just... wow. Albert was... was ... cuter than Thog, that's for sure. As much as she adored the muscle-bound blue half-giant ... Albert was definately .... .... wow.

"We'll get a Runabout. If this sceptre doesn't work, it should have the range to get us to somewhere safer." He announced. "Now follow me."

Anywhere... she thought, moving away from the door. "We need to check the stateroom, find the rest of the party!"

"What about the biterrors? I saw them in the hall ways... Don't we need weapons?"

She was right... "COMPUTER! Guide us to escapepods, avoiding areas with null invaders. Lead the rest of the Zion party to the same pod, so we stay together!" Hey, if the computer was able to track them, then it could also lead them out. "Weapons or not, we have to get to the escape pods. Whos' got the sceptre?"

[Comrade Tortoise]

"You are Right Albert, A runnabout is safer, they're armed, and they have decent range. They are also closer than the escape pods" Justin remembered a deckplan he had seen while looking for the holodecks

"Ok, we are on deck 12, the shuttlebay takes up most of Deck 4. We should be able to get the goblin on our way to the lifts. Follow me!"

These were the benefits of being a nerd and having a photographic memory

Ted held her arm finding some comfort in her standing close to him, "I dont know" he said "I'm not even sure where we could find any, Let me try something." with that he placed his hand on his chest and focused suddenly he felt more alive and more energetic as the air became warmer to him. His skin temperture dropped dramaticly takeing on the familiar chill of the grave, this would offer him a little protection and if need be perhaps a sheild for his friends. "I'll protect you" he said looking into Rory's eyes feeling admitedly a little corny. He continued to look into her eyes for a second before looking back to the rest of the group "I vote for the runabout, and honestly if you put a flight yoke on it I can probably fly it" He had played every flight simulator that had been sold since he was 12 maybe it was not actually the waste of time his mother said it was.

"Leah, if I stop for questions now, the full weight of this will hit me, including the fact I think Matt just decapitated Yuffie and right now I really don't need a mental breakdown." Albert said in a terrible hurry, moving quickly through the halls. "We have to get to the hangar. The hangar. There will be Runabouts, they can get us clear, assuming the sceptre doesn't work. We have the sceptre, right?"

[LadyTevar]

Leah thought really hard. "Umm.... You had it last, Albert... didn't you? In the stateroom?"

Which was NOT what everyone wanted to hear.
