The retreating army fell back south, toward Rivermet. Fire from the cities wall prevented the Khadorans from riding down the last of the survivors, but the arrival of defeated and demoralized soldiers sent a wave of panic flowing through the trading town. Businesses closed up, women hurried home with their children, and men reached for weapons. War, long rumored, had come to Lael.

Corey looked outside to see the panic stricken streets

"We have to go... That battle was close and now... " he saw defeated and wounded soldiers moving through the streets. Gunfire could be heard from the city wall

"Hell, it looks like we have to defend the city, see you in a few weeks Lazslo, provided we are alive to meet again"

He stepped out and headed toward the city wall that faced the victorious army, to check things out and see what could be done.

Despite her talk of fleeing, Akina was calmly cleaning her armor and carefully adjusting straps and the thick sheets of metal.

Angus leapt from Corey's way, leaving the money on the counter. He followed his fellow wizard in the streets. He had seen the man and some of his friends, and if he wanted to live through the next few days, it'd be best to have reliable, capable allies to watch his back...

"Would you happen to have a free slot for another master of the arcane in your esteemed party?" he told him. "I long for company, and you seem a formidable lot. With your friends, I mean."

"At this rate there may not be any choice, and with a couple exceptions they are less friends and more business associates. Mercenaries you see. Still, no good ever came from not defending the city you occupy, Rivermet's walls wont hold long against cannonfire"

"Corey Ferris" The wizard said, taking the other man's hand. "Lighting bolt, among other useful things, for hire. Now lets get to the wall and see if we are panicking needlessly"
