She nodded in agreement, watching as he pocketed the body's belongings. All the man's talk of Commies was disconcerting.

Without a further regard to either of them, she stepped from the Transbot, glad to be out of the rickety thing and back onto solid ground.

He quickly followed along, hands in his pockets. As he stepped out, he breathed a small sigh of relief, looking at the ceiling with a happy smile.

He stood there, looking around, wondering why Colgate was still there.

"I, uh, suppose you have your work to get to, friend citizen."

He looked around, a small hint of panic in his eyes. Obviously, the commies had waylaid whoever or whatever was supposed to correct that minor omission in his orders about where to report.

"Yes, ehm, indeed I do." She said. Although she made no move to head into any of the three doors, simply staring at them with an almost comic dumb look on her face.

"Well then!" he said when she refused to absolve him of any responsibility and potential blame. He gestured toward the RED door. "We should be on our way. After you, after you."

He crammed his hands back into his pockets as he waited for her to go.

"I'm actually waiting for someone," she said with importance. "Have a nice daycycle, friend citizen!" she said with a smile.

Damn her. She was probably meeting someone for a very important mission.

Or...

He looked away. Maybe she was the traitor who shot John.

In which case, it would be better to be far away from her.

Shoulders slumping slightly, he trudged disconsolately to the RED door and opened it.

After a long moment had passed for Jim to be out of sight, she checked the two other doors. Damn. Locked.

But all the while, she outwardly appeared as though this was routine, as though she knew what she was doing.

Another few moments later, she went through the red door that Jim had entered through, keeping to the entrance as she scanned the interior.

The interior of SPD30/C125 is not large; perhaps four meters by five. A
few low, moderately uncomfortablelooking chairs are set along two of its
walls. A large viewscreen dominates the third wall. It is currently off. A
small clerk’s counter stands against the fourth wall with a RED Clearance
door next to it. The lighting is very low. You’re not sure if the effect is soothingly subdued or unnervingly dim. You can barely hear, if you listen hard, the sound of someone sobbing though you can't seem to immediatly pinpoint where it's coming from.

He boldly strode up to the clerk's counter, pulling the the paper from his pocket and thrusting it out before him.

A few tears didn't trouble him at all. No doubt someone sobbing with joy at the benevolence of Friend Computer.

Colgate-R-NAF-1 stood in the doorway with purpose, then strode coolly up to the red-clearance door and opened it without entering, attempting to locate the source of the crying.

All Colgate could see beyond the door was a long RED hallway with a single RED door at the end.

Jim's paper went untaken as the sobbing continued though he did notice a shadow right near the counter which was connected to a body. Behind the counter, you find a huddled, quivering ORANGE Clearance citizen wearing an HPD&MC uniform from Complex Update, one of the News Services firms. He appears to be in some sort of serious distress, weeping quietly but strongly enough that his whole body shudders. Suddenly, he notices you looking at him. Scrambling back further under the counter, he shouts, "Don't eat me!"

He pocketed the paper and retreated quickly.

If there was eating of people going on here, he wanted no part of it. It was one thing to know that occasionally he was dining on one of his fellow vat workers back in the day, but that was just a byproduct of treasonous clumsiness.

He smiled at Colgate and pointed her toward the counter. "I think he said you should come in first."

From outside the room another crash resounded, echoing into the room. The noise of metal screeching, of large objects colliding and steel warping, bending and generally doing things that steel was obviously not intended to do outside of cartoons came following the sound of the crash. Next came the sound of transbot doors hissing open and footsteps.

"Did that man just say, 'don't eat me'?" she asked incredulously. However, before she could get an answer, the screeching and the racket and whatnot from the platform...

"Down the hall?" she asked, pointing to it. "Or is that where you came from?"

"I don't know," he admitted. "He was an Orange clearance citizen, and he obviously knows more about these matters than we do."

John-R-BKL-2 pried himself out of the wreck of the second Transbot Car.

Obviously Friend Computer had decided the most efficient way to make Transbot's stop where they needed to, was to have them crash.....

It bloody well figured.

He looked around, seeing the wreck of the first car, and moved towards it, to check on his previous self, and to obtain anything which may have been left.

He released Colgate's uniform and composed himself, taking a couple of steps back.

It would never do to get her bloody bits on his uniform and get gigged by the hygiene officer for his mission.

The man screams in shock and fear and aims a laser pistol at you with an ORANGE barrel. He pulls the trigger a few times though nothing happens. It's been drained dry by his constant shooting at everything he sees. He scuries backwards on his hands and feet, his eyes wide with fear. The rings under his eyes suggest a chronic lack of sleep. He is in near hysteria now.

At first sight of the laser barrel, Jim's innate instinct for diving for cover and hiding until the noise died down kicked in.

Excepting that there wasn't much cover. But he crouched down behind the only cover available, Colgate, and waited for the noise to die down.

Colgate stared for a long moment, then looked to Jim.

"Perhaps he's just crazy," she suggested, using the word as though it hurt her physically to do so. "Either way, staying here does not seem advantageous."

"I don't know about you, but I wasn't given a specific location to report to... Perhaps for this very reason!" she said. She stood by her earlier mantra from the train: "Friend Computer would not have sent us on this mission--and I'm starting to think it is the same mission--if our destination was to be a dangerous one!"
