The Prince of Coin shrugged, the power of his money having worked its magic. It flowed into his hands like a river to an ocean and had power in most places. In this world money was almost omnipotent.

"In this place, who can say?
I'm sure you'll earn you pay."

Fluffy dropped down to all fours as MetalMaw crossed the floor, the Prince's words seeming loud to her ears.

Her head cocked questioningly as she looked up at her guardian. No one else could hear the words that she spoke. >>You should have asked what he sees, beyond a disturbance in the air. It worries him, whatever it is.<<

"Of course, I trust now that I've taken on the assignment, you'll share what other scraps of information you have?" The Redcap smiled, one hand reaching out to pet the wolf that had come to his side. "Because I know you enough to know you don't start hiring just because the air is odd."

The Prince of Coins tented his fingers.
"When one walks to this world from another place,
The air changes and has this taste.
I cannot tell what comes forth,
But I can say it is to the north."

North? North was the lake ... although there were places in between that the odd scent could walk. But it was more information than they'd had before, so Fluffy was willing to work with it. She nuzzled Metalmaw's hand, enjoying the head-scritches as much as any canine. It just felt good, so good that she didn't mind if they stayed here a little longer...

Weyland looked up from the bar. "You want something Mace or just like the table?"

Fluffy snickered at the mage privately agreeing with his self-depreciation as she waited for MetalMaw to finish his drink so they could start The Hunt.

Weyland placed a gigantic mug the size of a bucket in front of Mace. "Enjoy," said the Smith.

Faun caught sight of the man and had a sad little smile to himself. It would not be the first night his form had attracted members of the same sex. While he may have partaken in such pleasures in the past from time to time, tonight was not to be one of those nights. Tonight his eyes wandered to the woman, and the women in the club around him. He wound his way to a woman who looked somewhat familiar and began to dance closer to her, his clothing flowing around him as he moved to the music.

Idly, he wondered about the man, if he knew him, who the woman was, if maybe they met through him, if he had forgotten, or if they had never met before. He wondered who they were as he danced closer and closer to the woman he thought he knew.

Unbeknownst to him, the breezes through the club did what they could to collect any words that could help from the couple in question and any they were talking to.

"Who was that?" the woman asked.

"Nothing. He looked like someone I knew from way back."

"But he's not?"

"Not," he said. "And whoever he is, he's much less interesting than you," he lied.

Two moons rose over a dark forest. Owls circled over head, their gaze intent on those stalking through the underbrush. One of the wolves raised his head and howled. A massive beast crashed through brush and sapplings towards the wolves.

The wolves sniffed at the brambles as the hunter urged his steed forward. Elephant sized legs that ended in reptilian claws sank into the moist soil. The beast forced its serpentine body forward. "Where is she?" the rider asked.

The wolves whined and one trotted ahead. "A way?" the hunter asked. "She passed through? Then we must find her."

The mage picked up the mug and took a sizable gulp

"thank you.." he thought he heard a snicker and looked around. And lo, he saw a dog that appeared to have recently snickered, probably more than met the eye there, the prince of coin, a person drinking rotgut he could smell from this distance away and an ogre. This was definitely worth investigating, so Mace shifted his hearing in their general direction and took a big gulp.

The red-furred dog simply sat down and emphatically scratched an itch on the back of her head with a back paw. Look at me, silly dumb doggie.

She rose and shook herself after the scratching, looking at the door, then back to MetalMaw and whining. They had a job to do.

"Alright, ready to go?" The Redcap smiled to his wolf. "Let's go see what's caused all this noise." Metalmaw dropped off money for his drink and took the leash. "Lead the way, oh tracker mine."

"Rwooof!" Fluffy barked happily, her tail held high and waving like a flag as MetalMaw let her out the door of the Goat.

Once outside, she turned north, nose up into the wind to try to once again catch the faintest scent of what had come through. It was a matter of elimination, discarding the scents of all mechanics, of hot pavement and concrete, of animal, mineral, and vegetable, to focus purely on the scent of OTHER.

It was faint. She couldn't be sure. With a whiffle she turned and headed for Lincoln Park, where the walls of the worlds were thinner. She knew 'Phil' would follow, as she took up the easy, ground-eating trot of a hunting wolf.

The wizard watched them leave and pondered shadowing them. It may not be a good idea, but on the other hand what else was there to do on this miserable little world. He would need to keep downwind though so that odd dog could not smell him... might be too much trouble.

He set enough money for the drink and a decent tip on the bar and got up. He would decide by the time he reached the door and picked a direction

At Lincoln Park, Fluffy paused, looking back the way she'd came. The Indecisive Fool is still following us, Boss. Do you want to scare him away while I search the park?

Does he know?

Would it matter?

He might help
him remember.

Remember us?

Remember then?

Remember to talk like he used to?

We miss that.

We miss
him.

Faun chatted with the familiar woman, the both of them flowing with the waves of sound in their own way, in the conversation, he wondered aloud, "Don't I know you from somewhere? You seem very familiar."

The words reached her but kept going, carried through the air by forces he was not fully aware of. They would reach the ear of the strange man by the kiss of the wind, while Faun was himself oblivious to the machinations around him.

"I know what I know," said the man. "Too many secrets and too many truths. But you have forgotten, haven't you. Too bad, so sad."

He's just like the others.

We should punish him. He was mean to
him.

Would
he want that?

No.

How much longer must we wait?

Maybe we could help?

The breeze around Faun suddenly chilled as the song stopped, and for a moment, he didn't hear anything, at least nothing that sounded right. He snapped out of his dancing and looked at the familiar woman with a hint of longing. "I'm sorry, but I have to go. I'll find you later, okay?" He left her saddened face with a strange sense of determination. Something was calling him out, to the park. It was though he had been inside for too long.

Disparate voices sang inside the other man's ear, each of them sounding stern. "He keeps things secret, he finds the secret things. We will show you."

The moment Faun left, the gentle breezes left the club, and with them both left the hurricane that was Faun's personal party. Faun, meanwhile, was troubled. Something just did not feel right back there. He could explain it, but it felt...wrong, unnatural, and yet right. His pace quickened as he marched through the night into the park, wrapped up in his own thoughts, not even aware of the swirling winds around him, looking for signs of something, anything. The thing that had come through earlier had been disturbing...something important.

We must find it.

It might be the key to finding that which was hidden.

What if it is dangerous?

We shall shield
him.

Our wails might wake
him.

We can hope.

Grass was barely pressed down by the woman's feet as she walked south, between the trees. Her eyes saw a shadow world, a half real tangle of brambles and trees crisscrossed by paths and streams. She could feel its shadows ready to reach out and entangle her, take her to a wild half way realm away from the eyes of mortals.

She was pursued. She could hear the echoes of the wolves' cries. They would be upon her soon. She began to run. South. There were lights in this world, not mundane lighting, but aware souls. She could see them. If she hurried, she might reach them. Before it was too late.

Fluffy froze as the world seemed to twist around her. Her head lifted, sniffing the air that suddenly seemed thicker, the hair on the back of her neck rising. Boss? Someone's coming she announced unnecessarily.

Where would it break through ... and what would it be?

(may as well go with the flow here)

Mace was indeed following, how she had caught his scent with him obfuscating it with wind magic he had no clue. But now she reacted differently, the wind carried the sound to him, there was someone else coming, perhaps he was off the hook and they would forget about their little shadow

The blonde woman saw the dog walking toward her and froze. She was not fooled. That was not a dog, but a wolf. And behind it were more. Friend or foe? She couldn't tell.

Fluffy also froze in her tracks, staring at the blond woman with the same expression -- Friend or Foe?

Welll.. one way to find out. Fluffy's reddish tail started wagging, and she opened her mouth in a playful grin, lowering the front of her body in classic silly-puppy I-wanna-play! posture.

Of course, if MetalMaw catches up, that would be even better.
