Gaheris looked back down the hallway towards the room where the council was meeting, contemplating whether or not he should just march back in there and order the examinations to start at once. He didn't want to come out and accuse Krelben of being possessed, but he had to know before leaving.

He came to a decision. "I'm going to go find Brother Tanthius," he informed his companions. "The council can't have all that much more to talk about; I'll insist on starting examinations at once as soon as they're done."

"Alright" said the mage. "What should we do if we discover someone who has been compromised? I dont have the spells prepared to remove them"

"They're not unintelligent. We negotiate. If they've already killed the victim, they die," he said coldly. "If they're controlling their victims then they have something we want, but the faith of those stationed here is strong enough that I doubt many of us would give in to their blackmail." The reason Gaheris had so much faith in the devotion of the Abbey was obvious to anyone who knew Westgate; to actively promote justice with the Night Masks looming over you was one of the greatest hazards the church of Tyr regularly put its members through.

Gaheris chuckled darkly. "Sometimes it seems like it. We'd best let him sleep; everyone here's been through the Hells and back today. Meantime, I'm going to find Solarian. I can only assume that he made it to the safehouse without incident if Brother Tanthius came back and didn't leave a report."

The crow hopped up onto the window sill. "They have returned," he said.

The black robed figure turned. "Really?"

"I saw them with my own eyes," the crow squakked. "They came back."

"How convenient."

"What are we going to do? They fought off pit fiends."

"They were stronger then. Let us try something a little different."

"Gaheris" Astinius said " When fighting a plague you dont concentrate all your efforts on curing the sick. While there is a role for that, your primary duty must be to find and cut off the source of infection. Perhaps it would be wiser for us to concentrate our efforts on finding and destroying the means by which our new friends enter our plane."

Gaheris paused. "If there's a way to limit it," he said. "Couldn't they just be using spells?" He sighed. "Of course, there's no way to be sure. You think we should go to Elturel now, then?"

"Spells have their own problems. Plane Shift is inaccurate and Gate is taxing on the caster. We should rule out the possibility of fixed portals before we go down that route. We should go to Elturel... Besides the longer we stay here the more danger us and everyone else is in. If nothing else we should leave"

"We move out through the front doors. Best to make sure our opponents know not to bother targetting here."

Gaheris' hackles raised at the barb, but he didn't respond. "Right," he said instead, moving towards the cloister's front door and the courtyard beyond.
