#1 Any Interest In A Game Of Dark Heresy?

Post by Cpl Kendall »

Hope this is kosher.

I have in my hot little hands (well...bookcase) a copy of the Dark Heresy Core Rulebook, The Inquisitors Handbook and Purge the Unclean. So I'm curious if there's any interest in a full on dice rolling nerd fest?

I don't mind GMing it, if folks are willing to be patient with a first timer.

I did notice that there is one already but the last post was a year ago.

I'm totally willing to give it a go. I'm thinking of either a psyker, simply because warp phenomena and perils of the warp are the only reason to play such a character, or a redemptionist firebrand, possibly of noble born stock so that he can start with a chainsword. Which do you think would work better?

Also, having gone through the SDN Dark Heresy bit, you may wish to check everyone's 40k knowledge first. Hotfoot can tell you all about that one...

I was involved in that at the start but unfortunately RL got in the way, I never bothered to re-read the thread. Bad was it?

I'd go with psyker (just for the random chance of something going horribly wrong).

If anyone needs it I happen to have a link to a random character generator as well as web based dice roller.

Psyker it is then! Plus a redemptionist is the sort of character most likely to start IC team killing anyway, so there are party dynamics to worry about.

And Hotfoot regrets not having the commanding officer march in and start executing some of the players after a really stupid move that nearly derailed the entire campaign. Basically several of the characters managed to go about the investigation with so little subtlety that they actually told the cult that we were looking for them. Sigh...

Also, LA has its own dice-roller. If you want we can use that. What rules are you using for characteristic generation? Standard, totally random rolls for each characteristic with a reroll, or roll nine times and pick what value goes where?

 I'm actually trying to run one at DITL right now that seems to have run off into an attempt to kill their transports ships purser because he won't give them stuff for free and they failed their charm test.

We'll just use the board one then.

Lets go with random rolls, with a reroll.

Very well then. Aside from career selection I shall let the Emperor guide my destiny!

Using Table 1-1 in the core rulebook for homeworld:

WS

S

T

Ag

Int

Per

WP

Fel

Table 1-5: Sanctioning Effects

Wounds

Fate points

Well... crud. Okay, rerolling my Ballistic skill as apparently orks are better shots than I am.

Now rolling for my starting insanity due to the sanctioning process being a little rough.

Hmmm... as for my options I think I will take Pistol Weapon Training (SP) and Trade (Merchant). For the gear I think I'll take a sword over an axe and the compact stub revolver. For the career advances... well, definitely going to take the first advancement for WP for 100 XP. Since you mentioned the Inquisitor's Handbook would it be alright to take the Living Nightmare advancement? Considering I'm already a little crazy and corrupt it might explain a few things. I'll roll up the extra insanity now in case you allow it, but I'll take something else if you don't want to permit it.

Dammit... I wanted to be the Psycher. I was going to see if you'd let me bring in the one I played in Cyncat's Game that went caput.

Look, AN, just because someone's character made a joke about the Emperor's cock to an Imperial Guardsman doesn't mean the player is a moron and had no idea what they're getting themselves into.

That said, I'm interested but my books are about 1200 miles away so I might have to track down a pdf copy.

Well, there was that, but the biggest problem was RIPP and that other guy. Especially RIPP. According to Hotfoot, apparently the entire Arbites network on the planet had been compromised by a cult of Tzeentch and he basically blabbed that the Guard were looking for signs of heresy. I think there was an inadequate level of institutional paranoia there.

Not to mention just running off on his own to begin with.

I was also fond of everyone deciding that telling some hive ganger that we were working for an Inquisitor was a good idea, too.

Hey, I shot at the guy who did that! Anyway...

Serghar Mercurtio

Once the proud son of a wealthy trader on a feudal world, Serghar was drawn by strange events into the greater reality of the Imperium. While accompanying a trade caravan across a great desert in his world, they were beset upon by raiders, and while he survived, the caravan and the raiders mutually wiped each other out. Lost, he stumbled through the desert until heat and lack of water brought delerium to his mind.

Somewhere along the line he discovered, or something discovered him, out in the desert. Months after his caravan went missing he reappeared on the wrong side of the continent, screaming about ancient, cyclopean structures and horrid. He was thrown into a prison by the fearful inhabitants of the city, where he sat, muttering to himself for a year until a Black Ship moved through the system and discovered part of the truth, taking him away for examination.

Years later and after discovering that his mind was impossible to read via psychic means, he was considered sanctioned, but in the process much of his surface level psyche was burned away, leaving him with gaps and missing holes in his memory. He is now convinced that whatever was put into his mind out in the desert has now escaped and is hunting for him. Because of this he always carries a pair of pistols on him, one a compact stub revolver hidden within his robes, the other an Armsman-10 autopistol he keeps more openly. It has cost him almost all his money to buy this pistol and the ammunition for it, but his rampant paranoia demands it.

Purchased gear:
Armsman-10 pistol (50 Gelt)
40 rounds (2 Gelt)

Minor psychic powers:
Sense presence
Chameleon

This is my character from Cyncat's Game. Please let me know if you want me to make changes. Cyncat made all Dice Rolls.

Kyona Halsburg
Sanctioned Psyker

Background:
Kyona Halsburg was raised on a minor Imperial world, born to parents of high status. Her father was a minor planetary beaurocrat handling local emergency response teams, her mother worked in the Astropath's tower sorting incoming and outgoing messages as part of the Imperial staff. The family lived well, enjoying the benefits of their relatively high social class. Then, Kyona started showing the first signs of being 'witchbreed'.

There was no long discussions, no heated debates. It was well-known what happened to those who tried to hide psykers, and her mother knew the Astropaths were in high demand. Before any stain or shame could touch them (or people come to take the teenager by force), her parents packed Kyona off to the authorities like good Imperial citizens, hoping their child's witchblood could be used to serve the Emperor.

She hasn't seen them since, as the Blackships came to take her from the holding pens a week later, and her training began. Once she had passed all the tests, and shown herself capable to serve, she was assigned to the Inquisitor Maximillian Xarbos as a Sanctioned Psyker.

Kyona does have one quirk: at times she will suddenly 'see' something that she relates to the minor arcana as shown by a normal poker deck. She can 'read' this deck as some read the Emperor's Tarot, and it often fits eerily in with the situation or people around her. At this point in time, she has the meanings of the minor arcana memorized, and thus quotes not only the name of the card, but the meaning that most fits the situation. It is a little off-putting, but someone who pays attention to her rambles might learn something.

Argh stupid editing messed up. Oh well I should've just made a new post.

WS, Int, and Per are damn low so rerolling them

WS

Int

Per

Replacing build score with just 'fit' as well.

Edit: Rerolling past trait as well as I got a zero less that just means 100....

Edit #2:
Is there a last name generator?

Name: Enoch Age: 27

Assassin from a feudal world.

(I'm not sure where to take this character so vague for now.)
