This is not a total party kill, or at least not yet. I do not kill my parties without affording them the chance to save themselves.

And as Tev mentioned, Spitfires are descendants of Kaziliks, bred together with Scottish and English breeds to produce a uniquely British fire-breather. I'm afraid Spitfires themselves are quite small, a product of the breeding necessary to guarantee the pyrogenic traits. If you're looking for a more substantial firebreather, you need to look to more natural breeds like the Cacafuego, the Flamme-de-Gloire, or the Kazilik itself.

Yeah, I figured the Spitfire was descended from Kaziliks; I just figured that breeding a Spitfire with a Kazilik would produce a larger 'throwback'.

So I will give a bit of a spoiler for book six and say there aren't actually dragons in Australia -- my initial idea was that in Australia we would find griffins instead, along the lines of the animal life in Australia being so very different from the rest of the world.
