Ok... after rolling her up, and chatting with Rogue, I've built your tank. The best part? With the White Raven discipline, she is able to help her allies and lead them in battle. Stick close to her, listen to her voice, and it will boost your characters.

Erk... I'd love to play a good old fashioned AD&D game, but... all these rules supplements and prestige classes that I know nothing about, I'd wind up with a basic "fighter" or "mage" or "cleric" class that would be comically useless compared to the specialty-built demigods you guys are going to be throwing around. I'm afraid it's probably best that I sit this one out.
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...

Actually, a lot of the most powerful stuff is in core. I could build a core-only wizard that would wipe the floor with every build I've seen from the players so far. All the fancy splatbooks are fun, but with a few notable exceptions they aren't really that far out of line compared to fully abused core material.

The problem is, I don't know how to "build" a character to be a powerhouse, at least not in D&D. I don't know the various minmax tricks and what feats in what order generate an optimal damage output or whathaveyou. I'd just wind up left in the dust, so... I think I'll sit out.

.....You know what, if this 'But I could never be a powerhouse' thing is a problem, I'll just drop out. Christ, it was a joke, to show up the silliness of CT.

Look, Havoc, nobody's throwing together a major powerhouse here, okay? If you want to play, great, make a character however you want and you're good. Ask for help if you want. If you don't want to play, well, that's fine too. I've been DMing for years, and I assure you, I'm quite capable of adjusting my game style to the players by now. It will not be a problem. Building a solid, if not overpowered, character is not difficult at all.
Hell, I'll help you out. What kind of character did you want to play? Big bruiser, stealth guy, mage, holy man, name it and I'll help you out if you want.

I didn't mean it as an indictment of the game. I was simply commenting that this looked like a game for experienced players of D&D. I haven't touched the game save for NWN and the like since 2nd edition. Play whatever the hell you like.SirNitram wrote:.....You know what, if this 'But I could never be a powerhouse' thing is a problem, I'll just drop out. I'm thinking, since I always play mages, that I'd try a cleric out for a spin. Tev is giving me assistance in working something out.

Precocious Apprentice gives you one free second level spell slot, not two. You don't get bonus spells on the spell level until you hit your third class level.

Okay, hold on. Who's playing? When I set a cap at six players I meant it; much more than that is too many to effectively manage. I've tried before and it was a train wreck.

I'm in if no one minds me making myself absurdly good at the roles of Controlling(IE, pinning down foes, reducing their defenses/attacks, etc) and Face(Social interaction and the like).

Description: A tall, slender, pale man with brown hair and eyes, favoring dark colors and long cloaks, coats, or other clothing that adds to his apparent height. Eralis Grim-faced and serious-looking at all times, save when carried away by his own preaching or zeal, at which point he enters states of profound ecstasy or thunderous rage. Always in the company of his holy symbol, Brother Eralis is a 'preacher' to his very bones, peppering his everyday speech with homilies, prayers, incantations, and hyper-zealous exhortations to bolster the faithful and crush the spirits of the unrighteous. His spells (to say nothing of his Turning attempts) come with loud recitations and extemporaneous sermons on the impending doom of his enemies, delivered with the fervent passion of a revivalist. Sin, hellfire, retribution, and divine justice feature prominently within his apparently never-ending lexicon of holy writ, but at no time does his preaching seem rehearsed or stale. Indeed, passion and ferment drip from his every word, even in mundane conversation, and his gaze and mannerisms belie an intensity hot enough to temper steel, a warning of the hellish torments he continually promises will meet his enemies, and the enemies of Tyr.
History (to be modified): Orphaned at an early age, Eralis was raised by a sect of priests who worshiped the god Tyr in his manifestations as the Maimed God, and the God of Retribution, Judgment, and Justice. A small, obscure sect, noted for its extreme piety and inflexible devotion to a narrow set of ethics, Eralis stood out even within such a group for his depth of faith and piety, coupled with a will of adamant well-suited for the rigors and mortifications of the clerical life. Even from a young age, Eralis rather precociously believed himself a conduit for the will of Tyr himself, and thus sanctified, would neither refrain nor even hesitate from denouncing and castigating those whose faith and worship were not satisfactory, or whose allegiance to the revealed word of Tyr (as he saw it) was less than perfect. Though ordained a brother, it was clear to all, including Eralis, that a contemplative and cloistered life was not suited to his temperament, and not long after his ordination, he surprised no one by announcing that he would seek to serve Tyr outside the brethren, rather than within it. Embarking on a strict regimen of preparation that involved lessons in the crafting of weapons ("That I might craft the means to scourge the unrighteous, and be myself crafted in turn"), Eralis forged his own sword, tempered it in holy water, and embarked on nothing less than a one-man crusade to purge the very earth of what he defines as "the unrighteous", and transform himself into an purified implement of the will of his enigmatic God.

I'm definetly playing, but I'm having trouble remembering how to generate a sorceror character... (I haven't played in years).

Guys? If you don't mind, it's a whole hell of a lot easier on me if you use a character sheet storage service. I use the one at The Tangled Web myself, but there are others out there.
Here's a sample of what one looks like. It's a lot easier to deal with than sifting through a post.
And sure, DEATH, I'll help you out.
And Havoc, you only get to prepare one of your two domain spells; you have a choice of two, but you only have one domain slot.

I should note I held up a bit on the powergaming. If anyone wants a demonstration, say so. As Tev is now pointing out, I also dropped the abilities I rolled(The 14s were all fifteens, one 16 was a 17.).
I consider DFA's 'Powergaming without guilt', because there's no way to ramp his power up without simply making me better at supporting the party.

I must concur with LadyTevar, go for it
