Players....

Pick apart Jason's CoE character. Anything you find, post it here so it can be mulled over, and his sheet refined.

At character creation he does not get to have 8 points of quintessence with his avatar rating of 4

You can buy additional Quintessence with freebees. I think its 1 background/4 Quintessence.

The main thing that catches my eye is some of the skill levels. While not 'wrong' by any rule, it just doesn't seem to mesh with the concept of a acid-tripping, iPod-toteing DJ Raver. For instance, Drive 4. This sort of level gives you professional NASCAR level driving skills and certifications. Sure, driving abilities may come in handy, but it doesn't seem to hold with your average Clubber being able to match skills with Mario Andretti or Dale Earnhart. Same with your Computers. Computers 3. Fairly high end coder who commonly writes complex and extensive code. Again, just doesn't fit the concept. I could see Computers 1 and probably 2 very easily. After all, use of less common programs tied in with some mixing software and your sound boards, etc. Requires some comp knowledge, but not extensive working knowledge and use of how to code in C++ or how to code your own *nix kernal from scratch.

On that same topic, I point out Occult 3. Why and how? Again, not saying it's not neccessary, good to have or impossible, just that the concept being offered doesn't reflect the points being spent in places. Why would a DJ also be that knowledgeable about the occult or that powerful in it (examples given in book are Voodoo Hougan or professional psychic).

This leads to the next point: Linguistics 2. Gives you two other languages that you're fluent in. Which two are they? Latin? Spanish? Aramaic? Sumerian? Babylonian? Enochian? Need to know that and have it set out before hand. Given that it's only Linguistics 2 and with the player concept I'm doubting it'd be anything more advanced than Latin? I doubt DS would let you get away with Linguistics 2 and Akkadian as a language.

Finally: Flaw - Addiction. As per the flaw, taken from Page 288 Mage core book Rev. Ed. (Yes, I'm aware we're 2nd ed but the flaws and all weren't listed in the mage books till Rev and the other books and thus we take them from there and use them as is while still playing 2nd. Ahem. Back to point.) Addiction is a 1 OR 3pt Flaw, not a 2 pt flaw. And it wouldn't be a two point even if the option were available as you're addicted to smoking cigarettes. Per the book: If the substance is relatively trivial and easily obtained, this Flaw is worth one point and it probably won't cause any in game difficulties. Your trendy clove Djarum Blacks, while often more expensive than you're average pack of Marlboro, Newports, or Camels, are not extrodinarily hard to obtain. Thus a 1pt flaw which means you need to go back and reevaluate your point spread to compensate for the loss of 1 pt.

That's all for now.

B4, have you ever seen ravers drive? Most of us ride in expensive rice rockets or old shit cars. I am saying he is a rice rocket driver. As for the computers his specialty is DJ Software which lets him create new songs and edit old ones plus he likes to mess with myspace layouts. As for the flaw, I will loose a point of flaw on my next edit and find something else to use.

There's more than enough readily available DJing software that Comp 3 is unneccessary. That's seriously like coding your own OS level computer knowledge, not trying to create a MIDI mixer. It's not a neccessary level for what you're after doing. And editing Myspace layouts certainly doesn't require kernal coding level computer skills. HTML, DHTML and XML coding is low end coding at best.

Same for Driving, as Tev pointed out. Drive 2 gives you Rice Rocket casual racing (Occassional ride out at the track, maybe a midnight street race from a roll at 30mph. If you want fast and the furious level bullshit drive ability go with Drive 3. Drive 4 is professional racing skill level. And let's be brutally honest here, being able to ride a rice rocket and doing it decently doesn't mean you can do it at a professional level. AMA level you're probably not...

Which still leaves the Occult and Linguistics to address.

Actually...I've come to a decision on Firewalkers sheet.....

Firewalker, I'm cutting away ten freebie points from your allotment. Your coming into the story later, and honestly, It'd harder to work in a character like yours into the story with his levels.

Strip it down to Basic creation +5 extra freebie points, which should help trim the bloat you have going, flesh his history and personality out some more, and we'll see how it goes. Keep in mind he may be a mage, but he's a normal human being also during your creation.

Oh..and this rule goes into effect for any new characters being added into the game.

Nightmares (1 point flaw)

Paradigm: Beleiving in magic more then anything besides a good high and good music, his style and paradigm are fairly similar. Using his skills as a mage, he forces his will through his music and slightly drug enduced highs. Though he does not require drugs to perform his magic he does require music, harnessing his music on his MP3 Player he plays songs to get the magic flowing.

Personality/Backround: A total raver, DJ Nighthawk is known for his deeply entrancing tones. His personality reflects that as he is a chaotic and whimsical person, a true Kandi-Kid. He is 27 years of age and one of the top DJs on the local scene. Growing up in a suburb of the city he headed to the city to become as big a name DJ as he could and is on a meteoric rise thanks to his subtle use of his other skills. Awakened as a young man of seventeen while on an acid trip with some friends in the woods his mind expanded and not just in normal acid trip ways. Instead he figured out how to change time itself and was soon absorbed by two of his friends into their coven for Klubwerks. His mentor is Jake Keldoth, a member of the Klubwerks scence for over 30 years and a master mage. As Patrick grows older he is finding himself more and more drawn to the power of trance music more then the D&B, Jungle, Shpungle and HappyCore he grew up on. Looking to improve his skills as a mage he has gone to adventuring around the world looking for magics yet untapped.
