Depends on him and his paradigm. They are the most mystical of technocrats and the common terminology of the Traditions is mostly derived from the Hermetic terminology (because they are the Tradition most inclined to systematically categorize mystical information and understand/integrate non-Hermetic magics).frigidmagi wrote:Would a Son of Ether really say Scry or would he use a sciency term like remote view or something?

And he's not a Son of Ether, he's a Hermetic Mage of the House of Thig - while they are the most Technomancer the the various Houses of Hermes, they re still very much Order of Hermes mages.
That, and honestly...the Traditions are groups of like minded magickal societies, not hard and fast of how you HAVE to act if you join them, while each Tradition will influence how your character looks at magick, doesn't mean he will be exactly like everyone else in the Tradition.

What DS said. He is a House Thig hermetic, which makes him... to put it one way, a somewhat odd hybrid of etherite and hermetic, though more biased toward hermetic.frigidmagi wrote:Would a Son of Ether really say Scry or would he use a sciency term like remote view or something?
I think I managed to capture that pretty well...

hey Ben, since I don't have the log on my laptop (and I'm at work with no desktop access), what was the difficulty I told you for the Scrying?
I think it was a difficulty 7.

See this is why I prefer dogs. I've never had a dog make cryptic comments and up and disappear without doing something vaguely useful.

Oh yes it is. Even their Ahroun will mindfuck you, and then gracefully whip your ass with Kailindo.Cynical Cat wrote:No experience with them (only played a little Werewolf), but their rep is enough.

I know about Werewolf Kung fu. It's nice, almost as nice as Do. I've seen an Akashic kick a shmuck werewolf's ass with that. Only a multitasking Mind rote to help with the extra dodge actions. The Akashic was unarmed. Garou was in Crinos. The GM did not cheat, because even though it was outrageous that the Do monster (admitedly built that way) novice mage would kick my werewolf npc's ass in hth, that's what happened.rhoenix wrote:Oh yes it is. The Stargazer beginnings and background of it was fascinating reading.Cynical Cat wrote:I know about Werewolf Kung fu.
Dammit, I wish I still had the tribebook.
Cynical Cat wrote:It's nice, almost as nice as Do.
Heh. Sadly, that really is the best way to compare Kailindo with something. Really though, comparing it against Do is...kinda like comparing a pistol with an entire marine unit.
So...we had a tweaked beginning Mage against an average Garou as a test?Cynical Cat wrote:I've seen an Akashic kick a shmuck werewolf's ass with that. When I ran the same test a few years back when I was getting into Mage, I twinked the shit out of both of them for flavor. The Mage still won twice out of three, but it was much bloodier than your example above.
EDIT: The mage in question had Mind and Entropy, if I remember right. The Garou was an Ahroun Get of Fenris who (somehow) knew Kailindo.

It wasn't a test, it was what happened when an Akashic PC decided to go mono on mono with a werewolf hth, without using any other magic. I thought he was crazy to try it, but he won. Werewolves are so top loaded for combat and have so many fucking advantages that losing in HTH against a mage (and the werewolf wasn't incompetent, just not a combat monster by werewolf standards) who is not using magic is notable.
It means Do is very, very nasty.

Yeah, that's hilarious.

Werewolves are not dogs and I imagine they would take offense at the thought.

Yes, generally in my experiance they dislike being called dogs. Of course when you've got a fuckton of Vamps all running through the hotel in the middle of the night screaming at the top of their lungs "Get the dogs! Find the dogs! Slaughter them all!" things get bloody.
The police didn't find it very amusing... wasn't our fault there were people from the dog show the next day staying at the hotel...

Personally I think 'puppies' is a better term for them, as they usually show about as much intelligence and sense...
