#1 Medication that can help and kill you.

Post by Soontir948 »

I've been prescribed Advair for my asthmatic problems and I'm looking through the reading material and these two bullet points came up. I'll give a short version.

Salmeterol is a long-acting beta-agonist medicine. LABA medicines are used in patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Next point says, "In patients with asthma, LABA medicines, such as salmeterol may increase the chance of death from asthma problems."

WTF!

I fail to see what's unusual about this. If US law WRT medicine is even remotely like german law they HAVE to to pretty much list every possible side effect, however unlikely. So YES, if a drug that is successful in treating asthma etc cases CAN, however improbably, cause problems in the very medical conditions it is supposed to improve, they HAVE to mention that.
