The Creative Assembly has announce their new Total War game, and it is...
Rome 2
There, you have it.
Frankly, I understand going back to Europe and retreading past victories, and Rome was the first of the truly 3D engines they did and they've come a long way since then, so revisiting Rome? Sure, I can see it, and frankly it should be a good time when it comes out next year, but...well.
I know they pride themselves on doing historical stuff and ancient battles and all that, but it would be nice to see them branch out a bit. They've done well enough they could get a team together to experiment with a science fiction or fantasy based game and see how that does. King Arthur has done well enough for being an RPG/Fantasy mix of the Total War formula. I'd sort of like to see the technology used in sprawling space battles, or for a properly made war for Middle Earth style of game.
But that's just me grousing. Rome is coming back, and Havoc's day is made.

Havoc ain't the only one. I am in bliss just thinking about it.
I wonder if they'll have the cav balance down. I remember how the original overpowered Roman cavalry, then when they got on to Medieval they underpowered lance/stirrup cavalry.
And egads, Parthian Horse Archers. Invading Macedonia and facing a solid line of phalanxes with a cheese stack of nothing but horse archers, those poor Greeks never stood a chance. There is something deeply satisfying about shattering a phalanx. I guess it's because the damn thing just looks so god damn menacing.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...
Havoc: "So basically if you side against him, he summons Cthulu."
Hotfoot: "Yes, which is reasonable."

I...
Hmmm...
On the one hand, I want to be like "Holy shit! Yes! Best news ever!" Rome was my introduction to Total War. I loved the shit out of that game.
On the other hand, I really wanted to see CA try something new. As Hotfoot said, try something with fantasy. Or hell, there are LOTS of historical settings that were fraught with conflict that they haven't covered. The Warring States of China just to point out the most famous. I would have liked to see them go do one of these after their rousing success with Shogun 2 rather than re-tread Rome.
All that being said, I will still buy and play the shit out of this.

Hmm. Warring States. Fertile Crescent. American Civil War.
More ideas?
Also, someone take Havoc's money.
