It's a bloody remote.
I am not going to buy an expansion controller just to have a freaking joystick, if they don't include the joy-stick add on in the base bundle, I may end up hating myself and buying a ps3/x360

That is seriously underwhelming.

That thing looks like a peice of garbage. I'll stick to my PS1 Duel Shock controller: as close to perfection as I've seen.

The X-Box controller, takes some getting used to because it's a bit wierd...
But when compared with that, I think it's the most ergonomic design on the planet.

Looks like Starfleet took over Nintendo's design department. All I can say is that I won't be buying that anytime soon (read: in my lifetime).

And will the thing talk back to you with Majel Barret Roddenberry's voice?

.....and we wil be buying only a 360, as the PS3 controller is hideous as well.

The problem is the gaming console creators refuse to admit defeat in the face of the best gaming control system you can use:

You know, I'd argue with Walps...
But he's completely right, at least in FPS Terms (though Halo 2 rocked)

Honestly, I never really got into the whole mouse/keyboard thing. I liked a controller better

1up.com has a better article on the Revolution Controller, it has full motion sensing, tilt to steer, swing the controller to swing a sword, it acts very much like a gyroscopic mouse.
Using it in a FPS, they used it in a slightly modified version of Metroid Prime Hunters, with just the contrller and analog stick setup, they obtained near perfect firing solutions from what it sounds, using the "remote controller" as it's been dubbed to look around, aim and fire.
That and you can turn the controller into the original "sideways" design and you get a original NES controller.
Simply thing of this controller as the next step, it's a lightgun and controller all in one, in what should be a reasonably versatile and ease to use singlehanded format.
And if you really don't like this control scheme, you can always use a Gamecube controller with the Revolution.....
As for me, I'm loving it, but I'll hold off final judgement until I see it in action, or try it myself.

I like to be able to reach around, move around, do whatever without moving my person. This means you have to stay still, and only move to move your person. That's going to suck. And I hated the Gamecube controller too. The PS was the best, followed by the S for XBox. I couldn't stand the damn Gamecube.

I hate to agree with Cleric, being a long-time Ninty supporter, but the GC's controller is horrendous, particularly for FPSes. That's pretty much all I play, so.
Fuck motion-tilt gimbal-based restructured orgasmatron wireless spunkpads, I want something with two thumbsticks, a gaggle of buttons and a FUCKING CORD. This wireless circlejerk the console industry's going through is pissing me off.

The wireless is ok, especially if you have an ability to charge it (like the nice Logitech mouse). What I don't like is the NECCESITY to use your controller to move stuff. It seems more like a gimmick to me.

Wow. I thought the Gamecube controller was the worst fucking thing to ever evacuate itself on the world of game control devices. It appears I was wrong.
Kudos, Nintendo controller design staff. You're a bunch of fucking idiots.

Personally it looks more like a step backwards then forwards. Yes it's got this gyro-gimbal control system which is instintive in all console gamers as you'll turn your body while you're playing anyhow...
but seriously, it's not astetically pleasing, it's not that functional for one handed use, it's wireless so I can imagine the issues if you hve a lot of wireless equipment in the house like I do and bleedover from signals.
Yeah the only redeeming factor for nintendo right now is the launch release of all the old school games...which I can just go and ummm well...download for free from the net now... or just you know go and buy the system at the flee market for like $10

Fargo wrote:
You've probably got a lot of thoughts about the controller. So did we. Here's a mostly-sorta-true account of a conversation I had with Bryn, our Sr. Console Editor.
Fargo: At first I was skeptical. I looked at the picture and saw the thumbstick and remote connected by a cord and I thought it was likely I'd trip or strangle myself. But it all made sense after I watched the press conference video.
Bryn: Yah, you really have to watch the video to get a feel for it.
Fargo: The pornographic applications are obvious.
Bryn: I can definitely see games that -- wait, what?
Fargo: The pornographic applications.
Bryn: What are you talking about?
Fargo: I mean, they're obvious. At first it wasn't clear to me, not until after I saw the video where the controllers slowly emerge from a sea of delicious milk.
Bryn: ...That aside, they did a good job of 'selling' the idea. I could definitely see how it would apply to, like, a first-person shooter.
Fargo: Or "Hilary Duff's Crotch-Grab."
Bryn: It measures the distance to the TV, too. It's hard to imagine all you can do with it. There are so many motions or interactions to experiment with.
Fargo: Like spanking. Or whipping...
Bryn: You could build a mean ping-pong simulator.
Fargo: Thrusting...
Bryn: Actually, lots of sports would work. They showed the controller being used like a baseball bat.
Fargo: ...Stroking. Or hey, you could also play games!
Bryn: But you know I think there's merit to what they were saying in the press conference, which relates to what Miyamoto told us in a recent GameSpy interview. Game controllers are getting really complicated, it turns away potential gamers.
Fargo: Game controllers are scary. One time one bit me.
Bryn: So you know, a little remote-control-looking thing that you just point at the screen -- anyone can get into that. It's easy.
Fargo: It might have been my cat.
Bryn: Plus, you could control games with one hand.
Fargo: Ah, see! That's my point.
Bryn: What?
Fargo: The pornographic implications are obvious.•

I must thank Nintendo for helping me to decide whether to buy the Revolution or not.
Looks like I'll be saving a bit of money this time around that can be better directed to Xbox 360 games. Whee.
As an aside, I'm simply shocked that Nintendo managed to make an even more retarded design that the PS3 controller. I didn't even think that was possible.

This has to be some amazing joke that they're playing on us. That is possibly the worst controller idea they could have had. Ever. They must have something hidden that they're going to reveal and go "Ha ha! Fooled you!"
