Post by Dark Silver »

Everybody dies nukey nukey death.

The game is fun, simple, not graphically or CPU intesive, and it kicks ass.

If you got the game, or intend to get it, do so. Let me know who has it, and i will start up a lil tourny thing to see who is the best at nuking everyone else out of oblivion

It's 17.50 USD from the site for pre-order with a physical copy of the disc when it's released.

10 bucks straight from Steam.

I am very very much thinking about buying this. If I do, it will be the first PC game since Starcraft that I have purchased; I am not much of a gamer, and being on Linux really limits me even if I wanted to (Starcraft and Warcraft work on Linux though, yay).

The beauty is Introversion apparently like their customers as they have native Linux versions of their games! That in itself makes me want to support them, and the game apparently kicking ass from everything I've seen about it would make it worth it.

...I might just stop at the bank and see if I have twenty bucks to spare. I am starting a job again soon so that isn't a bad price.

I am really leaning toward buying it. I'll check my money later today, and if I can afford it, I'll do it.

EDIT: While the preorder site says it is Windows only, on the official forums, they said:
Chris wrote:Yes your Windows purchase will entitle you to a free Linux version, just like with Darwinia. We will simply offer a replacement linux executable.
So apparently, it is Win / Linux for the preorder, just in a bizarre way. The road map also says:
November Linux version launched Low confidence. Kinda a grr there, but perhaps Wine will run it while waiting for the official version.. I clearly need to do further research before making the full decision though.

Is it multiplayer? Will we be seeing MkSheppard at the top of the global rankings?

Damn we should take up a collection to ensure Shep gets this game. That being said, if I drum up spare cash... I'm in.

Like you couldn't guess that was gonna happen.

Sweet radioactive zombie jesus on a pogo stick, this game is sweet. I'm only playing the demo for now, but I might buy it eventually. I played through the tutorial, and it's simple and addictive.

It just seems so right to watch a bunch of computer players go at it while playing The Final Countdown. The in-game music is great, but sort of boring after a while.

mmm, was playing a 6 man 2 Team affair last night, with myself as Africa, and my allies as Europe and South America.

I set my subs to have one group in the Mediteranian, and one in the Atlantic, along with most of my carriers in the Meditarranian (Europe and South America had more than enough coverage for the Atlantic).

By the time Defcon 2 hit, North America and USSR naval capabilities where drastically hampered, and Asia's fleets where all well away from me attacking in the Northern Artic Ocean. Scouting allowed me to find all coastal and some deep inland Asian installations.

Meanwhile, by the time of DEFCON 1, North America's Eastern seaboard had become non-exsistant, my bombers where taking out Radar and Silo's in India, Taiwan and China. Awaiting the launch of nukes by the other team, while utilizing a Silo in a out of the way area, i was able to bomb the ever loving shit out of Bombay, New Dehli, and Calcutta. By the start of the Victory timer, one of my allies noted Houston and Dallas was still there, as well as Tokyo, i noted the untouched Tehran while i was lobbing some ICBM's at Hong Honk and a few other chinese cities.

My carriers in the Atlantic made good use of thier nuclear payloads, and Dallas, then Houston, where laid waste, while several ICBM's where launched upon Tehran. In the closing minute of the game, both major Texan cities and Tehran where a glorious funeral pyre of nuclear death and destruction....

Tokyo remained untouched by the end of the game....a pity.

this was followed up by a 6man FFA.....that was ever so much fun.,...

I played the demo, NA vs Asia.

Surface fleets were kept on station off the west coast of North America on defense posture. Asian surface fleet attemted an attack at this time. Because our fleets were in range to provide support to one another and recieve support from ground based AF fighters, Asia surface fleet was wiped out. Each ship was reported sunk with all hands. No surviviors reported.

Surviving carriers (3 out of 6) were set to anti-sub duties while surviving battleships were rushed to the East Aisan coast. Boomer fleet had already been dispatched and was nearing launch point.

At this point surviving carriers located enemy subs and destoryed them. The Carriers were then tasked to sail towards the Asian coast to link up with the rest of the navy. Defcon 1 was breached at this time.

The main strike force used against Asian cites was the bombers of SAC, while ground silos were maintained in a air defense mode. As the first wave of bombers hit Aisa, ground launches were detected. Boomber subs launced on discovered enemy silos and rader sites while carrier forces ran missions against known enemy airfields. SAC bombers contined forward even has enemy air defenses began to target them. Despite heavy loses, SAC did not turn back and 90% of all first wave targets were hit repeatly.

The enemy strike was not as effective as no damage had been suffered to defense inferstructure. Intercept rate was over 88%, however the cities of New York, Los Angeles and San Deigo were still hit. Due to saturation of Eastern Sea coast defenses New York City was hit several times resulting in 19.2 million dead. San Degio would suffer 4.2 and Los Angles 4.8 million. No other US cities or installations were hit.

Due to the massive lost of American life a 2nd wave strike was ordered. With East Asia was wiped clean of all military units, navy units were ordered to proceed into the Indain ocean, where they committed strikes against enemy airbases and rader bases. SAC hit targets in India and 2nd wave targets in Central Asia. As no futher ground launches were deteched and no other enemy silos found, ground launches were authorized hitting targets in the Middle East, India, western China and other zones of conflict.

At the end of hostilies the enemy forces in Asia suffered 75.5 million dead, and an unknown number of wounded. Their military infersturcture was wiped out along with their nuclear stockpile. The United States suffered 28.2 million dead, (see classifed report 8A for list of wounded) with little to no damage done to military assets beyond the naval battle loses and shot down bombers. It should be noted at this time that only 10% of the nuclear stockpile remains able for use and SAC is depleted of experienced and trained pilots for bomber command.

It is suggested that futher nuclear hostities with other powers be avoided for the foreseeable future.

So Brian Clevinger's gotten to playing DEFCON, apparently, and this is what he has to say:
So DEFCON.

The slogan is, "It's Global Thermonuclear War, and nobody wins."

What it should really be is, "It's Global Thermonuclear War, and Brian Clevinger never wins."

I like how the computer gets to protect every city on the planet with complete impunity using one missile defense silo that must have Superman at the controls while I've got fuckin' lobotomized starfish on missile command.

Great, the game went crazy on me, I attempted to delete it and redownload after several attempts. The result?

I now have a worthless folder in my program files that will not allow itself to be deleted nor will it actually allow me to play a game. In other words, I have Chenyian rebels in my computer.

And I can't access the designers site to redownload the demo anyways. This fucking sucks balls.

What was that sound?

Oh yes, that was the sound of the eastern seaboard vaporizing as an Israeli schoolboy took me to town.

I conducted an experiment into just how many nukes could be dumped into Europe.

Here are the early results.

EDIT:

Let's see how America fares...
Whoa.
