I think this is the right forum for this... if it isn't, please move it and ridicule me for my stupidity.
Why does Firefox seem to randomly open random windows?
For example, just now, I took a look and I had two windows: the one I was using, and, puzzling enough, my private message inbox.
At no time, however, had I touched anything that had anything to do with my inbox. On another forum, something similar: the other window was the Edit Profile screen, which I hadn't touched at all.
I find this highly inexplicable; perhaps someone else doesn't, and if you don't, would you kindly shed some light on this situation?

That... doesn't make sense.

Well, I've figured it out somewhat - it definitely opens a new TAB (which is what I meant - if you didn't figure that out) if I click on something with the mouse wheel.
On the other hand, with the examples given above, I didn't do any such thing.
And another thing - half the time, when I enter in something in the browser bar, it goes to a totally different site, one with only the first few letters of the URL.
For example, not long ago I typed in "www.libr" and it gave me a menu to come here.
Instead, I get the damn Linux site. Really, what the hell?

I can only say that this is not typical behaviour for Firefox.
The browser bar phenomenon needs some more details -it's supposed to give you a drop-down list of sites that matches the typed URL but the choice should clearly be yours.

Well, I type in "libr" as I said, then select the first thing on the list - the Forum Index, naturally. Instead, I get www.li.org, the Linux site.

When you type in a malformed URL to the address bar, it enters that text into a google search and redirects you to the first result page. Clicking with the mouse wheel opens a new tab.
Both these are standard behavior and are explained in the Fucking Manual (tm).
