#1 X1900XT released into the wild

Post by Ace Pace »

While every hardware freak knows where to get his review, some very intresting features of ATis new card.

1) Angle independent AF. This is a wet dream for flight sim fanatics. KAN, I'm looking at YOU

EDIT:FUCK.FUCKITYFUCKFUCKFUCKUCKFUCK!

EIGHTY, EIGHTY percent improvement over 7800GTX. In fucking FEAR.

Oh lord allmighty of computer geeks, giver of the holy GPU, bestow upon your humble servant an X1900XT.

Who? Me? *whistling innocently*

Actually I always prefer nVidia cards due to better compatibility with older flightsims. For instance, running European Air War with ATI cards eliminates the fog effect (I want my fog back!); and even though there's a patch somewhere in SimHQ to fix it, I'm quite a purist when it goes to backward compatibility (the same reason I keep a Voodoo5 5500 PCI instead of using a GLide wrapper). Also, enabling AF in Jane's USAF with ATI cards causes some weird screen artifacts, and so is enabling FSAA in Jane's F/A-18.

Heck, even the relatively new 6800 plays Jane's F/A-18 without problems; with all enhancements enabled.

However, I haven't been quite familiar with ATI since the X series. How about their compatibility with older games, especially when enabling AF and FSAA?

So be it. If saying "NO" means being alone, then to hell with love, with romance, with marriage, and all the shit life keeps pumping at me. I'll walk alone, but with freedom and a healed pride.

NEVER buy a LiteOn CD/DVD Writer. Ever.

I have no idea about compability...except that they have recently released new drivers that massivly improve their OpenGL implementation, ask around.

The thing is, for you, I'm suprised you ain't a LOMAC freak.

I see. Where's the best place to find sources on ATI, then?

You will be surprised, Ace, but believe it or not, I am NOT a LOMAC freak. In fact, overly realistic flight model is not my thing. What's important for me is the strategic-level involvement (like in Total Air War or Mig Alley, where you can choose the target yourself), nice strategic twist (TAW AWACS mission), and the ability to "manage" your squadron (like in Gunship 2000, Team Apache, or Eurofighter: Typhoon).

And yes, I'm the kind of guy who choose easy landing all the way to Sunday.

Look around, Subsim, anyplace that would deal with this kind of stuff, that said...

LOMAC has massively scaleable realisim, just PM captain tycho :)
That said, you need to grow up, play some X3 reunion etc. :) And get a GPU thats newer then 2000.

Yes, but where's the dynamic campaign? Sure the mission builder is nice but still.....

Well, the reason I'm sticking with 6800 is because it is the latest GPU supporting Windows 98. That, and Voodoo5 5500 for old games.
