Creator of Symphony of the Night Launches Kickstarter
This is pretty straightforward. Much like the Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter, this is a revival of a classic console game series done by the creator that brought the series to its most fondly remembered heights. This is Castlevania with a different name and modern graphics. It went up today and as of the time of this posting has already raised over $400,000 of the $500,000 goal. This one's getting overfunded by several times, I'm sure.
But that's not surprising. As Mega Man was a classic platformer and had a large following back when, to say nothing of the countless clones, so too has Castlevania. Hell, Castlevania and Metroid combined were used to refer to an entire class of platformers called "Metroidvanias". So they're coming back and making a new one, with a new IP (because reasons) and a fan-supported budget. So far, most of the games I've backed on Kickstarter or Indiegogo have panned out. Some are still in development, but making progress. Most of the ones that have come out that I've either had an eye on or backed directly have been, at the worst, quite good. This one has less actual game footage and such available, which is a concern, but this is a formerly professional development team with experience in the precise style of games they are attempting to create, so, yeah, this seems to have a strong chance of getting off the ground and getting made.
Chances are by the time you read this, the game will have been funded and we'll be into stretch goals. This is effectively a pre-order with an added side of telling the gaming industry at large that this is something you want to see more of. But seriously in the time it took me to write this it jumped another twenty grand.
