The second kind of battle interface, at least in menu choices. You can let the CPU control your characters, run away from the start, or begin direct controls. The benefit to this one is that if more than one character is ready to move, you can select whom to control first rather than be forced to pick in the order they become available.

Note: Tevar is basically a hero profile with a class name and a sprite set, hence no flashy white magic being shown yet.

Honestly, Tev, looking at it again... the cut of the dress is clearly straight, it doesn't look like an extra pair of tits to me.

In fairness to Her Ladyship it DOES look like that if you look at it the wrong way, but for something of that resolution and using that kind of dress that's probably unavoidable.

Third and final style of menus. The reason Tev's character is glowing iss because they flash when you're selecting a character to give commands to.

Are all three of these available in the game or are you trying to pick one? Because I say go with second option.

Wha? Oh, you mean because "Fight" is above it?

Fight has almost always been the very first item on an action command list in Final Fantasy. Such that it not being so is usually an exception worth listing.

No, I misunderstood you people to be talking about which option to PICK from the SHOWN menu, which for a Mage is 'Magic. D'oh'.', not about what should be the FIRST menu entry.

Played with the sprite a bit to see if I could eliminate the "quad-boob" appearance. Basically involved changing a couple black pixels into purple-hued ones.

That's looking more like a blouse, and less like quad-boob

Why did they have to make the default battle character sprites so big. Whyyyyyy?

If I put in FF-derived battle sprites without alteration, they look small and puny next to them. If I increase the FF sprites to match, they look pixelated and shitty.

Examples:

Might as well just keep the standard size Steve.

That would mean that the game's default sprites would dwarf the others.

possibly maybe shrink the game sprites to fit in with the other sprites?

if it's possible

Tested it. The default sprites don't look so good when shrunk.

Practically I think I'm at the choice of either using just default sprites plus those I can get to look good enlarged (Lucca's sprites aren't bad, for instance) or using just the FF and Chrono sprites exclusively.
