#1 Frigid's connection, or wraith of the internet gods...

Post by frigidmagi »

I'm using a wireless internet connection, it goes through a modem to a router (A D-Link router, I'm not putting up the specifics where just anyone can read though) and I'm using Cox Internet.

Stability hasn't been the word.

The latest problem is a entertaining one. The computer and router will insist that I am indeed connected to the internet, show good signal strength and packet exchange. Thing is? I can't actually do a bloody thing, like go to any web pages. It comes and it goes.

Thought I throw it up and see if anyone has any ideas what's plaguing me.

Most likely the router. If it's the same one I remember, it's not exactly what I would call reliable.

I'll IM a solution.

it's either that or a problem with the modem/signal itself which may be something he can check as well.

Frigid, if you have a standard Cat-5 cable and can jack directly into the modem itself you can try that, that'll narrow down where your problem is if it's a miscommunication with your router, a signal strength problem(possible) or if your modem is just trash(happened to me, twice)

Can't jack in, doesn't work. That's why I'm on wireless.

This might be a lazy solution, but I'd recommend buying a new router. Preferably one that can handle ethernet and wireless, and preferably Netgear/Linksys/Cisco.
