Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
Honestly that seems like a completely reasonable reaction. Leyton is a manipulative bastard, and nobody knows that better or more personally than Leyton Jr. Of course he's going to disbelieve and try to cut to the heart of what's really going on. Also yes, the Romulans would be rather less concerned...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
Pretty sure variants of "I know how to stop the Borg" conversation has happened thousands of times by now, with pretty consistent results. Here's Ishtar's idea: We cannot and will not stop the Borg, but that's no excuse not to try. Here's Ishtar's idea if she knew we had a Changeling in the fleet: I...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
For all that Discovery might pretend to be part of the main Star Trek continuity, it frankly has every indication of being part of some alternate timeline. There's just too much that doesn't really fit with everything else. Honestly I'd prefer to ignore it.

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
Well the two meetings are explictly nine hours apart, so Cretak should have no trouble attending both of them. Cynical Cat, while there is no canon source establishing how the Klingons got cloaking technology, it's very strongly implied the Romulans gave it to them in exchange for M/AM reactors and ...

A glossary of Romulan terms Lys makes use of: Rihan = "Declared" = Romulan (adj) Rihanh = "The Declared" = Romulan race Rihannsu = "Declared Ones" = Romulans Rihanha = "[One who is] Declared" = A Romulan Havran = "Changed" = Reman (adj) Havranh = "The Changed" = Reman race Havrannsu = "Changed Ones"...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War, Volume II
Some time before the arrival at Prophet's Landing The three guests who had gone Kadon's party aboard the Riskdah - khre'Riov Charvanek, Dahar Master Murugan, and batgirl Nerio - sat in Khanjar 's main conference room. A lightly built Rihanha man with a scarred face and a sinister countenance had jo...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
From the Romulan point of view, the humans more or less did what they would have in their place were it not for their complex history with the Vulcans. Of course she views them becoming the Federation's centre of mass as a "just as planned" kind of thing, when reality was closer to "well that happen...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
Kadon and Ishtar weren't actually disagreeing with each other, they were just approaching the same concept from different directions. The key factor giving Earth its advantage is that it was a neutral third party. While it's to the credit of humanity that they successfully leveraged that advantage, ...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War, Volume II
Ishtar had always liked Galan, he had a good head on his shoulders and you could rely on him to keep secrets. The downside was of course that this made him difficult to manipulate, and ties by marriage only stretched so far. Though perhaps farther than before, given how little family either of them ...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
Reading back on the game, General Havoc made it clear that we didn't have enough power to run the structural integrity field, inertial dampers, and life support aboard the Saeihr . Since we do have the fleet tender under tow now, we must have solved that problem, so my post provides the explanation ...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War, Volume II
khre'Riov Ishtar i-Nalim Charvanek sat in Khanjar's seethed with murderous wrath. The Artificitor-class fleet tender ChR Saeihr , the only vessel of its kind left anywhere in the quadrant, lay shattered before her, exceeded in its ruin only by all the carefully laid plans to capture it intact. So mu...

Re: Star Trek: The Quadratic War
Since i off-handedly brought up this game several days ago, and now it's restarting, i am hereby taking full credit for inspiring Havoc to do so. Guess me and Cynical Cat can write up what transpired during the dinner between Kadon and Ishtar after they met out in the nebula away from the rest of th...

Re: RPG Review: Symbaroum
The elves aren't even originally from the Davokar, they have their own realm to the west of it. The implication is that just after Symbaroum was destroyed by whatever evil corruption it afflicts it, none of the survivors knew what the hell to do about it, so the elves volunteered to become guardians...

There's also the little matter of geneseed mutation and people like Fabius Bile experimenting. For traitors, biologically female isn't totally out of the question, it just makes you a special snowflake. Since i am the specialest of snowflakes, it is only fitting that my characters be so as well. Al...

Re: So, What Now?
Dark Heresy interests me little, and it's dissapointing you're not suggesting to bring back Rogue Trader. Traipsing around in a blinged out space penis cathedral appeals to me. Black Crusade on the other hand, i already have a character concept for. It's established in 40k lore that all Space Marine...

Re: RPG Review: Symbaroum
You can tell i like a setting when even a short synopsis inspires a character concept. "Listen bro, my mother wanted a changeling child. She took her baby to the forest, called the elves, made a free trade. I'm everything mom ever wanted, the twinkle in her eye, as they say. And the rest of the vill...

Re: What is Cyberpunk?
I feel the aesthetic while an identifiable part of Cyberpunk changes over time. I remember when mohawked, garishly clad gangsters were front and center, then it became long leather trench coats over all black ensembles and now it seems to be turning towards utilitarian work clothes. The two main th...

Re: Trump pardons Joe Arpaio
It occurs to me that making it so you can only pardon people who have already been convicted would be an acceptable limit to the Presidential Pardon. This means Arpaio's pardon would still be legal, distasteful though it is, but it would prevent killing investigations via pardons. Only once the fact...

Re: Trump pardons Joe Arpaio
This is bad, but its not as bad as Bush senior pardoning a bunch of people for the Iran-Contra. Generally i rate abuse of your own citizens as much worse than abuse of foreign citizens, since government officials have a sworn duty to the former. That said, Arpaio was pardoned over a midsmeanor for ...

Re: Trump pardons Joe Arpaio
On the face of it this seems like a waste of executive power. Arpaio was almost certainly going to get a six month deferred sentence, which would mean he wouldn't serve as single day in jail. Trump basically pardoned the former Sheriff over a slap on the wrist . Either Trump is just doing this becau...
