Re: Renaissance Game Thread

Palermo, Sicily Ferdinando paused before his employer as the older man considered the pamphlets he had brought in. He braced himself for anger, or outrage, but instead found himself perplexed by the ambassador's full-throated laughter. The page paused before inquiring tepidly. "Ah, my lord?" "Whoev...

Re: Renaissance Game Thread

Palermo, Sicily "I didn't know you could do that with a chestnut," van Hoensbroek commented dryly as he read through the pamhlet. "Linking Sforza with the excesses of the Borja papacy is particularly useful, though. And I imagine these will sell well with the more depraved parts of the public, givi...

Re: Renaissance Game Thread

Bruges May 1478 Maximilian of Austria stepped into the vestibule of St. Donation's Church as a common parishioner, albeit one with a coat of mail beneath his jerkin and fashionable blue doublet and the ermine-lining of his gown reserved to royalty. The smell of incense marked the transition from th...

Re: Renaissance Game Thread

Nuremburg May 1478 The wealthy patricians of the Free Imperial City turned out in force to greet the entry of their feudal liege. Frederick III of Austria, Holy Roman Emperor, Semper Augustus , watched impassively as one worthy after another delivered insincere homages as he passed through the gate...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

We are into the game. And it's been almost a month since this game was mooted, and we are still down histories for a significant portion of the player base. Trying to run a game while no one but the players involved have any idea how their nations came to be or are run is an obvious problem. The his...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

Anyway, next part of the timeline covering Germany and Central Europe. In general if there was no serious deviation from what was otherwise going on, it doesn't feature. So if someone really wants to do something with the Hanseatic League or Saxony or whatever, quite fine. And again, this is a draft...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

Alright, next draft for the timeline covering Italy. I talked over with Ben everything that had gone on in Italy and went by it piece-by-piece with him, but if there are any objections or desired additions, post in the thread. It only goes up to 1453 thanks to a lack of any established events of sig...

Re: Renaissance Game Thread

May 8, 1478 The arrival of such a large and eminent Roman delegation to Sicily could not go quietly, and no serious attempt to hide it had been taken even from agents on the docks. Contacts in the court had already confirmed the purpose and identities of the delegation to the Imperial ambassador ev...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

So yeah, that history I was talking about? Spent today working on getting it ready. Here is the draft, approved by Ben for posting. If those concerned have objections/additions/clarifications to add, do so here. A timeline for Italy has also been worked on and may be posted later. I will attempt to ...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

Magi wasn't a disrespectful little shit and actually bothered to post a reason for his opinion. You just posted your little violent reactionary decree, belittling me and Lys while dropping an f-bomb along the way, and then had the gall to complain about me swearing in response.

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

Hey fucktard, we've been talking to Ben. I put together the goddamned Resources chart, and gave him a layout of the HRE, and have been responsible for almost all of the rules tweaks for unit balance. So how about you shut your ignorant piehole, alright? I'm not going to bring up any of my complaint...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

You had an entire week warning that the game was going to be starting and you said nothing. Now it's too fucking late. We are not changing rules. Period. You had a week to bring up ANY of those complaints or concerns, and you didn't. Hey fucktard, we've been talking to Ben. I put together the godda...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

I concur with Lys that the balance established in the rules set may be imperfect, which is why I was pushing to test it before starting. Certainly the naval rules are extremely crude and more than a little anachronistic and definitely need a major overhaul and expansion. I also think starting may ha...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

A Hussite Bohemia will be enemy number one for the Holy Roman Empire and subject to constant attempts to destroy it coming from Germany and Hungary, and quite possibly Poland. It will be surrounded and besieged from day one, and it will face serious internal disruptions from the large German populat...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

The Netherlands are already claimed, though North Germany and Bohemia are both free. The Hanseatic League would be particularly valuable to introduce another major trading state and balance against the concentration of trading states to the south. It would probably be a lot easier and involve a free...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

That sounds exactly like the historical schism. That issue was resolved in 1418, what rationale is there for the resolution to fail in this scenario? If the Romans didn't kick the Pope out entirely, I don't see how the schism wouldn't have been resolved. Pretty much every power preferred a single p...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

Nah, there's a little triangle north of the Pyrenees in Spanish hands on the map, if you look closely and know where the modern border is. Rousillon just isn't nearly as big as the province map for EU II makes it, which is certainly one failing of the engine.

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

It seems to me that with the ways the rules are presently configures, there is an objectively best way to build a power, which is to max out Economy and Connectivity at the expense of Size and Resources. A state with maxed out Size and Resources will have exactly as many florins to spend on an army,...

Re: Mad Renaissance STGOD

I will (predictably) claim a greatly aggrandized Austria, under the rather charismatic leadership of the Holy Roman Emperor, Maximilian von Habsburg. That will be Austria Proper (Austria, Ostmarch, Salzburg, Steiermark, Tyrol, Istria, Ansbach), the Vorlande (Alsace, Baden, Bern, and Schywz), and the...

Well, I'm iffy about this grey area... Maybe this is just me being grumpy, we'll see after I get a good night's sleep. Well, I see three options. Number one is to just ignore the Lunar Bond. It's a big part of the fluff... but the fluff for Lunars is questionable at best. Mechanically it isn't very...

Technically, on the Lunar's part, the Bond implies instant recognition and Intimacy - it can't just crop up depending on plot. Or perhaps you meant that Yue keeps this information to himself until Plot Happens? Either one of the Solars in the group is his Bond-mate, in which case he is trying very ...

The thought has come up. I'm not sure at the moment. He would probably be suppressing any feeling of the bond right now. I'm open to having that develop as a plot point, depending on the exact idea and such.
