It has been three months since I last posted in this thread, or these boards. When I said that I would, "take it and make the best of it" I meant it as I said it. My intention was to leave for a few days to get my mind in order, then return and try my best to contribute to the game with the hand I w...

That's not even slightly what I was going for, but I'll take it and make the best of it. Thank you for taking the time out to make something. And I mean it honestly. I don't know how to express a feeling of gratitude yet disappointment without it being somewhat snarky sounding.

Relating to earlier discussion. If we go by geological time scales we are already in a technological singularity, and have been since the end of the Dark Ages. To the Earth a millenium is but the blink of an eye.

What everyone else was telling me about what the Defiant's strengths are - I didn't really get it until seeing it here. Watching Sisko take the helm, and use the Defiant to close to knife-fighting range, and rip, claw, shred, maul, and tear apart the battlecruiser really brought it home. Lesson lea...

I think I see the fundamental point of misunderstanding with the GM. I was expecting that I would provide a general concept and General Havoc, as GM, would fill in most of the details. From my end it works out like that even picking a stock ship. I only have a vague idea about the capabilities of St...

EDIT - This is a reply to Lady Tevar But I have followed your advice and the GMs instructions, at least as I am able to understand them. -The ship has too many weapons, the weapons were cut to be equal in number to a Sovereign. -Havoc said he wanted relative effectiveness of missiles, I posted them ...

Four phaser and twelve missile racks is less armament than the considerably smaller Akira, and the Akira has fighters.

You can call yourself the Caliph of Baghdad if you want, that's not the issue. The issue is that Commodore is not a Star Trek rank, at least not in the modern period. I just wanted to be clear that your official rank would be Captain, as that will be an issue for some other players. Let's just keep...

Though it has been used as such occasionally in the past, Commodore is normally not a rank, but a title. It refers to a Captain who is in a position of greater authority than most ship captains, but who is not a Rear Admiral. While there have been occasions within certain navies where Commodore rep...

Jesus Christ, one of these days I'm going to learn to never provide an ETA related to something I'm writing. Fortunately the incomlete parts are just backstory and fluff. This time I made sure to get the important bits done first. So I'll post this now for criticism and the rest will come tomorrow: ...

Not Awesome enough. I suggest you make a Mirror Universe version and bring both to the party.

On an unrelated note, my character sheet is almost done! ^_^

Will post in a few hours.

I'm still hung over from the last election. I swear this time I'm just going to ignore the dammed thing until it is actually 2012. These impossibly long campaign cycles are ridiculous, and I will have no more of it.

So as I finishing up my character's backstory I wrote the following line, " Blackheart Ravager was struggling to contain critical damage to its warp nacelles". Would weak warp nacelles constitute an acceptable vulnerability? I don't mean weak in power output, I mean if a hit lands on them they are v...

The problem with this is that figure comes from a noncanon source, albeit a respectable noncanon source (got to love the mess that is Trek's noncanon sources). On screen, we've seen all sorts of different yields. They've also mentioned all sorts of different yields, including the always hilarious "...

Goodness, you're absolutely right. She'll have to fix a single number on her sheet to get the fluff and hard figures worked out properly. I was trying to be polite, sarcasm is uncalled for. If I am not allowed to comment on other people's characters then just say so and I will refrain from doing so...

So I was again reading through everyone's character sheets and something jumped out at me. Eiofe Kirk is described as having graduated from Starfleet in 2370, but at the same time she is "young and unsure of herself". Even if she was some sort of prodigy who enrolled at the age of 12 and graduated a...

1. What is your ship's ideal range? Medium range, but it can fend for itself at long range and will not be a total pushover at short range, but it's at medium range that most of its weapons systems are effective. 2. How easy is your ship to hit at its ideal combat range? Depends on what the enemy i...

1: I need an idea of what this ship is intended to do, originally if possible, in-game if necessary. Jack of all trades? Line battlecruiser? Point Defence escort cruiser? Something I've not thought of? As I mentioned earlier, I tend to favour jacks-of-all-trades. However for this I was going for mo...

4. You have to narrow down your ship's role from "Awesome". If you want missile spam, you're going to have to cut down on the beams, and probably your Shields of Awesome as well. If you want a proper beam boat, you'll have to cut down on the number of torp tubes you have, and probably your entire d...

Every scaling I've seen hasn't suggested a discrepancy of that amount, although the Galaxy's reactor is larger. The reactor designs are also quite different during an era of significant technological advance and the amount of fuel going through either at any given moment is going to be quite small ...

To say I don't trust Darkstar's math is an understatement. That he doesn't show any of his calculations or the assumptions he made while making them makes me even less inclined to trust the results. A lot of the D'Deridex is empty space, which makes its size deceptive. Where did you get the Galaxy versus Sovereign figures? They sound off and I would like to see the mass, but in any the big boys are allowed and we can use all the help we can get. There is a neat list of starship sizes here . Th...

Whoa, a Galaxy and an D'deridex. Those are big ships. By volume the Galaxy is 2.5 Sovereigns or 1.2 Valdores. A D'deridex is 4.5 Galaxies.

BIG.

I was sanity checking my ship design with Havoc last night. He was concerned I had too much alpha-strike power, so I cut down the size of its full spread volleys. Then he was concerned that my magazines were too big on the grounds that no other player had something in that ballpark, so I cut that do...
